Wow, Devin Cabrera really hit it out of the park with this book. And once again, Joe Hempel shows himself as a Master Narrorator!

This book starts off with a group of friends receiving an invitation to a haunted island. Once they arrive, this little vacation became more than any of them thought it would be.

This book had all the feel of 13 Ghosts mixed with Shutter Island, and I fell in love with it almost immediately.

If you are looking for a quick, spooky book for Halloween season, look no further and pick up a copy if Welcome to Nightmare Island.

This book can be read as a standalone, but it will spoil Cabrera's other novel Jones 1963. Welcome back Jones Jepsen!!

This story is 13 Ghosts meets Jurassic Park. It's a solid story with potential to be expanded into a series revealing more backstory of the origins of the ghosts and the characters involved. It's very visual and would translate well to other mediums.

The overall story was a fun listen. The writing style needs some smoothing but for a first book it's just fine. would have liked to see more ghost action but looking forward to future entries hopefully to come

Jurassic Park meets Thirteen Ghosts is a fairly accurate description of the plot, and I am here for it! Devin Cabrera is excellent at plot, he sets it up nicely and doesn't bog the book down with needless rabbit trails or narratives. The plot gets 5 stars/wizard hats.

The execution...wasn't so great. You can tell this is a first novel. There is a lot of repetition of words and names in places where Devin doesn't want the reader to get lost. It seems like he's unsure if the reader with follow what he's trying to convey unless he spells it out very clearly. As the book progresses, it happens less and less, so you see progression even here. Did it knock me out of the story a couple of times? Yes. However, I was willing to overlook it because I was enjoying the story.

The story follows 5 friends who are invited to a haunted island for an adventure. This quickly go sideways when the murderous ghosts trapped on the island escape captivity. There will be blood, as they say. This is a fun ride. It isn't complicated to see what is going to happen or who the good guys are, it was pretty predictable, but who doesn't enjoy a good popcorn fest?

I will say, I did not believe for a minute our main guy, Jonah, was a horror novelist. He never acted like someone who had even read a horror novel before, let alone read them.

What I really enjoyed was the world building and the set up for future books. There is so much room to get more information on the current situation as well as the backstories on the ghosts we are only given a vague introduction too. In fact, Devin's second book, Jones 1963, is a backstory to one of the ghosts introduced here. I love this concept creating a world and then building on it.

This book will not change your life, however you will probably have a good time reading.

This is a quick, fun story but is very much based on such horror as 13 Ghosts. There is little exploration of each subject and characters reactions are silly at times. That being said, I honestly enjoyed it.

I have read soooo many audiobooks narrated by Joe Hempel, and I will continue to listen to his narrations. He does a fantastic job.

The first book by Devin Cabrera, Welcome to Nightmare Island, is nothing short of ultra creative, riveting, and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Paranormal ghost horror is my favorite sub genre, and there are plenty of entertaining ghosts and ghost stories within this novel. Jonah, a popular author, receives an invitation to stay on Nightmare Island. A famous ghost hunter, Maverick, has caught various troublesome and problematic ghosts and relocated them to this island. A special wristband and kind of orb make the ghost harmless to humans. A series of events unfold, which makes us question if the ghosts will be harmless forever. A five out of five for me!
