Awesome book

Excellent characters and plot. The technology works for the world and there is a good mix of action, space, mech and infantry. Great world building and characters.

I was kind of expecting another 'Dad gets killed, son escapes to carry on the fight' kind of story but that wasn't what this was. I'm now curious about the Jeuta and other governments. An excellent start to what should prove an interesting series.

Marc Vietor also does an admirable job narrating.

I'm really looking forward to the other books.

Sci-fi military greatness

First, I have to start off by stating that I got this book free of charge in exchange for a review, but as I always state, this does not in any way impact my review. My reviews are always honest and my own.

This book has the proper amount of action, adventure, drama, and romance (yes, I said it) in it. This is going to be a great series because the crew has a long way yet to go and they will be fighting pirates and who knows what else, the whole way.
If you enjoy an interesting military storyline with lots of action and great characters then this is the series for you. The characters and action are believable.

The tech system is easy to follow and despite how it might seem early in the book, no one is overpowered. There are no exp here, just tec points used for leveling.

Overall, this is a fun book in a genre I love. At times it is a slice of life, but never for long. The story arc is one that has great potential for future volumes, and I’m interested to see where he takes it. If the Reality Benders series wasn’t out, this would leap into my number one sci-fi game lit spot.

Heavy on the battle scene details

The performance is top notch. The story is good if you don't mind ones heavy on the details of each battle. Some can go on for multiple chapters.

Average very average

The characters were all fairly standard
The story was simple and easy to follow
Not a whole lot of needless technobabble a bit too much of your elders know best

What I didn’t like The main character is a Boy Scout except for when he’s not and the author gave them that were moral compass that all corny riders try to give the main characters The main character can slaughtered dozens of people in the heat of battle but if one murdering rapist terrorist thief or parrot just put his gun down and raises his hands the main character is going to stop and talk to him and maybe let him blackmail him or talk him into letting him go it’s such a naïve stupid thing if these authors try to ride into these main characters in the end it really takes away from the story

With that said I will probably buy the second book it’ll probably go downhill fast and I won’t buy the third book in the series if these things go the way they normally do

Good start to this series..

Interesting story about Logan Connor taking off to find weapons from people who lives ages and ages before he did. AND the battles he would fight while he tried to cross the galaxy.

A little romance, without any kind of descriptive sex, and the F-bomb was used 44 times.

As for the narration: Marc Vietor did a great job.

Miss leading

The books summary was very misleading for me. I thought the story arch would be him giving up his position to go fight pirates.... Not even close. l won't give any spoilers but the actual story was better then the summary. There is pirate killing. There is wholesale slaughter. There is giant robots and the author really fleshs out the universe to immerse me in the "science" of the book.

Sci-Fi Military story with Mechs & tons of action

This was a really fun story. It has great military action and some really good Mech battles. The character development and character interaction is also really quite good. I thought the story and backstory is really pretty good. It takes place in a universe that has broken off into different factions after the 'empire' collapses and different sectors are carved out. It is kind of the dark ages in that respect as much technology and prosperity has been lost and there is constant battles between the factions. Piracy and mercenaries run rampant and there is not much the different governments can do about it as they are too busy contending with each other to deal with it.

Enter Logan Connor a Mech pilot who also happens to be the Heir apparent to the leader of the Spartans. He is in the military and keeps the fact that he is the son of the leader hidden from most so he does not receive any special treatment. Logan has become disenchanted with the way the world works and how the pirates raid and kill normal everyday citizens with impunity and he is helpless to stop it. Logans, brother Terran(a scientist) then intercepts an old transmission from deep space from the Old Empire and trace it back to its location but to get there they will have to travel through enemy territory. The payoff would be access to lost technologies and would give them the edge and could lead to them forging a new empire if all goes well. To accomplish this Logan goes undercover with a crack team and he becomes Captain Jonathan Slaughter the leader of a Mercenary group named Wholesale Slaughter. This will be their cover to travel through enemy space, and the cover will also allow them to crack down on Pirates and build a reputation in order to keep their cover which works just fine with Logan

The narration by Marc Vietor is great and really fits the story, character and style of the book. This is a great first installment and very interested to see how things progress and where they end up.

VERY GOOD START. EXCITING SPACE OPERA

Logan Connor aka Jonathan Slaughter is a very interesting protagonist. Fighting against pirates and raiders. Trying very hard to keep his people safe. The crew is excellent. The story flow smoothly and is well performed by Marc Vietor. First book from Rick Partlow and I am glad I tried e book. I am already downloaded book 2 and will be getting book 3 when it comes out. Excellent writer.
