About this listen

Author of the “unguessable and unputdownable” (Alex Michaelides, #1 New York Times bestselling author) Kill For Me, Kill for You, the master of psychological thrillers Steve Cavanagh returns.

What if the witness was more twisted than the killer?

Something is wrong with Ruby Johnson.

A former resident of the ultra-elite Manhattan upper class, Ruby now works as a maid in the type of houses she used to live in. Unassuming, she sees everyone’s dirty secrets from the inside of their beautiful, renovated brownstones. But when Ruby witnesses a murder, she has wicked plans in mind that don’t involve telling the authorities the truth.

Eddie Flynn, streetwise ex con-artist-turned-defense attorney, is the only lawyer in New York City willing to take on hopeless cases. And none is more hopeless than John Jackson’s—the gun that killed his neighbor found, with Jackson’s DNA, in his own home. Flynn and his unconventional team will need to use every trick they know to keep an innocent man from being locked up. But to save his client’s life, Eddie must first protect his own, as the scariest organized criminals in the city are out for his head.

Perfect for fans of Lisa Jewell and Megan Miranda, Witness 8 is a fresh knockout page-turner from an author who is “the real deal” (Lee Child, #1 New York Times bestselling author).

Too many characters and too many plots that were not necessary. The story line was not cohesive.

Long and winded

Witness was not as good as previous novels in the series,
Looking forward to more in the series. The story could have been more developed, missed Eddie and his courtroom skills. Not many twists and turns as I have come to expect.
The positive was it's fast paced and a few new characters might be showing up in future novels.

Adventures of Eddy Flynn

The Eddie Flynn series is one of my favorites—great storytelling, fast pacing and engaging characters make me look forward each installment. The only downside is that now I have to wait for the next one. I highly recommend this book but if you are new to Steve Cavanagh’s books, start with the first one.

Enjoyable story telling

Steve Cavanagh writes tightly plotted thrillers. They are wonderfully gripping and a lot of fun. To this native New Yorker the setting seems like an alternative-reality New York, and if you can get past that you’d enjoy this and other novels. He’s an excellent storyteller.

Great plot

I first became aware of the Eddie Flynn series with the buzz around the release of this book. I am so glad I took the leap into this twisty, legal thriller world of Flynn and his friends. "Witness 8" takes us into the world of the New York elite, where one of the more scandalous neighbors is found murdered in her home. When Eddie takes on the case of the man accused of the murder, you come along for the ride as the tension grows - will the accused man be able to make it to the trial under teh growing pressure of his society peers, a DA who wants to use the case to make a name for himself and a group of hitmen trying to take out Eddie in the process? Cavanaugh kept me guessing to the end. While "Witness 8" isn't my favorite in the series, I don't think it will disappoint any Eddie Flynn fans.

I love this book; he never disappoints. It kept me in suspense the entire time. Don't hesitate, purchase the book!

Why do authors do this? The news is bad enough: all the vitriol, virtue signaling, Critical Theory and identity politics dehumanizing us and losing our capacity to appreciate each other and enjoy life. Can't we escape in an edge-of-your-sear courtroom thriller with like Eddie Flynn in The Defense, The Plea and Thirteen?

I went nuts for Eddie Flynn in those first three books. He was funny, smart, interesting, and the plots, characters and suspense were so distinctive and fresh. I think the narrator is this book was the same in the first few Eddie Flynn books, and he was perfect. But now there's no character, warmth or soul in Eddie's voice any more. And why would there be, because Eddi sounds cynical and bored with life.

But, that's where Steve Cavanaugh wants to go now, and I don't have to buy his books. But I really miss the original Eddy. And regarding Witness 8? I couldn't make it past Chapter 9.

Eddie Flynn got the woke mind virus and he's no fun any more, at least for me

Not much to day other than it was a long story without much depth or mystery to it. Wish this was an audible original so it could have been free.

Drawn out for nothing
