About this listen

In Elfhame, bargains are currency, lies are weapons, and your heart is your greatest weakness.

Reeling from Bastian's revelations, Kat wakes from her dire illness wanting nothing more than to sever all ties with the man who betrayed her. But fate has a different plan—she's trapped in Elfhame, the fae realm where nothing is as it seems. And worse, she's trapped with him, reliant on his touch to stave off a poison that threatens her very life.

Thrust into the center of Dusk and Dawn Courts, they must balance the two in order to maintain a delicate peace. But in a world where alliances are forged and shattered in a heartbeat, danger looms. A mysterious group infiltrates the city, and spies whisper of an ancient artifact powerful enough to destroy an entire court.

As enemies close in from all sides and attacks on the city escalate, Kat and Bastian must unearth deadly secrets and their own complicated feelings to survive—or risk a war to destroy faekind itself.

Full of betrayal, bargains, and broken hearts, A Touch of Poison is the spellbinding second book in Shadows of the Tenebris Court, a searing romantic fantasy trilogy perfect for fans of The Bridge Kingdom and A Court of Thorns and Roses. Intended for mature listeners.

I love the dynamic between the two main characters and feel the relationship grew immensely in the second book. I also enjoy the friendships Kat has made! I do wish there was more development on the male lead!

Great 2nd in the series

The story is compelling and super fun. She does tension well. So worth the credit. Great series.

HOWEVER, I agree with all the other reviews. The male performance should have been produced better. Unfortunately, he is not a very good voice actor. I think he has nice bass to his voice, but he ends every sentence like it’s a question. He could have used some feedback and direction before this went to final. It would really help to have this redone with a producer involved to help his performance. It hurts the male chapters. Though, I will not be returning the books because of it and will listen to it again.

Really like this series

Great story and overall enjoyable listen with the slight exception of the male narrator. His intonation felt really off and just very news anchor like, don’t was hard to connect with those parts of the story. Otherwise a great series so far!

Male Narrator or News anchor?

I enjoyed these first two books so much. I literally could not stop listening to them - and I loved Kat but wish there had been more descriptions of Bastian. I still don’t have a very good visual of him. Not a hinge pin for me though. I quite liked the character development and the pride and prejudice style waiting for the love story to come to fruition. Can’t wait for 27 June!

The character development is beautiful

I liked the first book, this one was a decent follow up, but they really needed to just have the female narrator. The male narrator demolished Bastian's POV for me and I had a hard time listening through his parts. it was like listening to a choppy BBC news feed, cringe.

I wished they had a different male narrator

What... this can't end that way. I have so many questions. Good job, and please give us more

I enjoyed most of it.

All is well with thr book besides the cliff hanger which sent me into a frenzy.

No! Cliffhanger!!!!! UGHGHGHHHHHH

The story itself is so good, but the male narrator parts kept pulling me out of the tory. I have never heard a male narrator sound so boring during spicy scenes. So many times I had to rewind to relisten to his parts bc I would get distracted by unicorns, squirrels, and when the wind changed direction. << joke <<
But seriously, not a good voice actor at all. Barely any emotion or inflection relevant to what was going on in the scenes. Sarah Sampino did a superb job. Between the riveting story and Sarah, I am looking forward to the 3rd book. Guess I'll just muddle through Liam's parts like I did this one.

The male narrator ruined it for me

I couldn’t even follow the book when it came to the male narrator chapter because he doesn’t follow punctuation and feels like he is saying the entire thing as one sentence. Not to mention his terrible inflection. He absolutely ruined this series

Ruined with the male narrator

This story is good, and the female narrator was great. But good gracious the male narrator! His voice itself is nice, but the cadence/inflection is terrible. I couldn’t get past it, the female narrator was great I wish she did both perspectives. It’s like every sentence he’s asking a question or something. The way it lifts up at the end of almost every sentence is really difficult to get past, and seems like it would be such an easy thing to fix. How any editor could get through that without commenting is beyond me. Just couldn’t get over it.

Male narrator why
