Publisher's summary

What really happened to the girl who walked into the woods and vanished forever? It’s a never-forgotten mystery that clings like a shadow in a short story about dark memories and inescapable fears.

For disgraced professor Matthew Merle, the inheritance of his grandfather’s crumbling mansion is both a burden and an offer of safe haven. His childhood friend Claire, a psychiatrist, desperately needs a haven of her own after one of her patients unleashes his dark side. At turning points in their lives, it’s inevitable that they should return to the past. And to Merle House. It’s been waiting for them.

All My Darkest Impulses is part 1 of House of Crows, a four-part serial about friends with a shared history of darkness. They’ve spent their lives running, but they can no longer hide from the past. Each story can be read or listened to in a single haunted sitting.

It’s good

Initially, I was listening in bed and I was so tired, I’d fall asleep and miss parts. After trying again and knowing it was short, I didn’t want to stop listening to it! Figures it was the first part and I’ll have to use a credit to hear the rest!

Interesting

The story is interesting. I enjoyed the audible version of this ominous story, looking forward to Part 2.

Disappointing Beginning to Series

This is the first book in the four book series called the House of Crows. A disgraced professor inherits his grandfather's old mysterious house. A house with a bad reputation. His childhood friend, recovering from a horrible event begins to hear the phantom that her patient heard.
First impressions are that this story seems forced. I expected much of what happened, and it ended rather abruptly. Hopefully, it will get better as time goes on. I recently finished a great book called the Chill, by Scott Carson and that book was wonderfully creepy and well written. This is trying hard to be frightening. The Young Blood series was more frightening than this.

All My Darkest Impulses

This is the first short installment in a series. The story seems interesting enough. I borrowed the book and audiobook from Prime Reading.

EVERYONE KNOWS THIS

No one can tell what the foreboding foyer spirit is in the Merle residence, but it is strong and convincing of its own character. Anyone would know this.

Short Story part one

Part one of a supernatural short story trilogy. With few exceptions, I am not a big fan of the genre so if you are, don't let my mediocre review stop you from listening. The characters were introduced and I am sure go into more depth in the subsequent parts of the story. The story was interesting but not enough to make me listen to part two. I usually don't like multiple narrators but they did a great job and it wasn't distracting at all.

The haunted Merle House

All My Darkest Impulses is set within Merle House. Matthew Merle grew up in Merle House. It’s a big old house with creaking floors and hidden passages. Matthew moved his wife and daughter into Merle House. After he lost his job as a professor he inherited the house from his grandfather. With limited income he hoped to fix it up and sell it for profit. Matthew is haunted by the house. When strange noises and the fog descends Matthew’s family grows concerned about the haunting staking place.
This is book one out of a four book series. This was a good start to what I’m thinking will be a dark and scary read.

Narrators:
James Anderson Foster
Saskia Maarkeveld
Frankie Corzo
I’m unfamiliar with each of these narrators. I did enjoy each performance. I listened at 2X the speed using the audible app. I downloaded the ebook and followed along.

Part 1 of a novel. Does not stand alone.

I don’t know why Audible formats this as 4 stories. Very misleading. It is a novel and the formatting is confusing. The Part # could at least be in the title so it is clear. The story is gripping. Some expressions and observations are repeated far too many times. All in all, Enjoyable.

Optional

Narration was excellent. My favorite way to "read" a book and get other things done, such as folding clothes, mopping floor and making bed. Lisa Unger's writings keep you engaged and wondering about the ending.
