Bury Your Gays is a heart-pounding new novel from USA Today bestselling author Chuck Tingle about what it takes to succeed in a world that wants you dead.

"Brilliantly bloody, wildly fun, and extremely scary, Bury Your Gays brings a sledgehammer down on tired tropes and makes a masterpiece of their guts."—Rachel Harrison, national bestselling author of Black Sheep

Misha knows that chasing success in Hollywood can be hell.

But finally, after years of trying to make it, his big moment is here: an Oscar nomination. And the executives at the studio for his long-running streaming series know just the thing to kick his career to the next level: kill off the gay characters, "for the algorithm," in the upcoming season finale.

Misha refuses, but he soon realizes that he’s just put a target on his back. And what’s worse, monsters from his horror movie days are stalking him and his friends through the hills above Los Angeles.

Haunted by his past, Misha must risk his entire future—before the horrors from the silver screen find a way to bury him for good.

Interview: Why Chuck Tingle’s new horror novel, "Bury Your Gays," is so dang good

Editorial Review

A new meaning to “leaping off the page”
The best horror stories surprise and subvert as they scare—and there’s only so much I can say about Chuck Tingle’s latest novel without giving the thrill of that experience away. I’ll say this: If you love campy stories that still have heart, have been in your glory in this age of whip-smart, socially conscious horror, or have ever yelled, “Just kiss already!” at a clearly queer-coded duo on your TV screen, this one is for you. I adored Tingle’s 2023 horror debut, Camp Damascus, but as a queer film & TV geek, Bury Your Gays, with its nods to pop culture and meta moments, spoke to my soul. Perfectly paced to induce that creeping dread we horror weirdos crave, it’s a little bit Jordan Peele, a little It Follows, a little X-Files—and 100 percent Chuck. André Santana’s lively, earnest performance is reason enough to listen to this one, but there’s another special treat: cameos from Mara Wilson (Camp Damascus), Georgia Bird (many, many Tinglers), as well as a slew of SFF writers (Charlie Jane Anders, TJ Klune, Stephen Graham Jones, to name a few). — Sam D., Audible Editor

Solid horror

This was a solid horror with enjoyable characters. I could have done without so many narrators but I still had fun with this.

A celebration of queer joy by a beloved author

This book was a helluva wild ride! The narration was excellent, which really made the novel shine, but the writing itself was the real hero here.

vim pela referência de supernatural, fiquei pela história cativante

simplesmente não esperava, amei demais tanto a narração, quanto a escrita, o cuidado com os plotpoints, tudo se encaixou

Great build up

The ending was anti climactic and was not as good as the rest of the book. I almost just stopped listening.

The hype is real.

What’s so special about a masked author in a bright pink suit? I asked myself going into this that very question. As this year’s StokerCon was happening and I started seeing the pics roll in, I kept witnessing friend tout Chuck Tingle.

That’s when I began looking into his titles and came across Bury Your Gays.

This is a wonderful story that doesn’t beat the reader about the head and shoulders with the sexuality aspect of the main character. It’s a well written, thought provoking story with wonderful characters who happen to be part of LGBTQIA+ community. It shows that we are simply humans trying to live our lives. The book also addresses some very real queer issues.

I want to thank my friends for introducing me to Chuck Tingle. I’ll be reading more of his stuff. Maybe we will even meet at a convention some day.

an unpredictable delight

This was my first Tingle book ever, after many years of recommendations to read him by my friends. I expected to live it, and I truly do!

A book for queer creatives

Chuck Tingle has been a powerhouse in queer fiction for years now and this book reflects his sharpened tongue. It also cuts right to the heart of what it can often feel like as a queer person in America trying to make a living with your art. Beneath a clever story about a witty closeted hollywood writer being haunted by seemingly deranged fans masquerading as monsters from his various films is a very relatable river of angst that nearly every LGBTQ person I know feels towards queer representation in media. Chuck goes straight for the jugular of corrupt, pandering, hollywood elite who hide behind phrases such as "we crunched the numbers and...uh, we really feel like we should go in a different direction with that character" or the classic, "we really liked your story but do you think you could make the love interest a women, we just feel like that would land better"

It is hard to say much more without revealing too much so I will leave it at this: This is a timely horror story that does exactly what the genre should do in 2024, hold up a mirror to our reality and give us some much needed catharsis.

Queer meta horror!

An excellent queer horror. I really enjoyed the structure and story and how some chapters were from the character’s past.
