About this listen

Cast your spells. Earn EXP. Bring the dead back to life.

Death fears the men who can use magic against it, but what are those guys scared of? Well, necromancers are only human. Jakub Russo has a big heart but a dark past, and when he's banished from the magical academy for failure in his first assignment, he finds himself needing new allies, new spells, and new weapons.

A world of secrets and spells awaits outside the academy doors, and Jakub knows that one day, he'll master them all. If he can find his own code, he'll become the best necromancer who ever lived.

This is Book Two in the Necromancer series. It can be listened to as a standalone, but I recommend starting with Book One, Path of the Necromancer.

Better than the first one

We get to know the academy we here about in the first book. Pretty much a completely new cast of characters. Witis is hilarious, the narrator had me laughing. Really good voices.

Dropped an hour in

I don't quite understand the logic behind having a protagonist be shit on, but still accepting handouts from the people doing the defecators.

It all seemed rather pathetic. Jakob not telling the senior Necros to go f*** themselves after being expelled, then still adhering to the doctrine extolled by said assholes...

There's only so much spinelessness I can take in a protagonist. I experience all fiction through the eyes of the protagonist, if they make too many decisions that have me cringing or sneering in disgust, my immersion is broken and I just dip out.

This is that story for me. Maybe Jakob will learn to be more independent and grow a pair and I could learn to respect him. I've no interest in sticking around to find out
