I can't believe that Han Yang has written so many books and I hadn't really heard of him until now.
If this book is any indication of how good his other books are, then I'm going to be enjoyably busy for a while.
So aliens have taken over earth and enslaved all the humans and are putting them into a game type system to train them to fight for the aliens and also for their entertainment.
Our MC is given a bit of special treatment to start because she has no feet. But she has a great head on her shoulders and is good as a people manager as well as a military leader.
This author is pretty good at keeping things moving and doesn't spend too much time on battles and stats.
The narrators do a great job. No complaints from me on that.
No sex and I don't remember much bad language.
Something I wouldn't mind my teenage kids listening to.
This is a pretty solid LitRPG book and I'm looking forward to book 2.

We got a taste of this book in the anthology Legendary LitRPG. I'm so thankful that Mr. Yang decided to expand it into a novel.

The MC is many amazing things, including a woman. A woman MC in LitRPG is rare, which I think hurts the genre as a whole as it excludes many readers who would enjoy the genre. I am thankful that Mr. Yang went against the common advice and made the extraordinary, strong, and conquering MC a female. Well done.

There is also a note from the author about his time in a military hospital. The themes of overcoming adversity, hope for the future, and perseverance comes from his actual experience.

The world, story, characters, and writing are all excellent and made the story even more enjoyable.

The dual narration really brings the story alive and was superbly done.

I would encourage everyone to give this book a try. Its message is about valuing life, whatever that is for you, and taking time out of our busy lives to acknowledge it.

Well done, Mr. Yang! This book is brilliant.

Han Yang have hit a Home Run with the story. The MC is kick ass woman who know who she is just do what she feel is the right it to do. even understanding not all fight to good.

So, I love Han Yang. But I have to admit it was a little weird for me reading a male authors take on a female MC POV. Sometimes they can be tricky for guys to pull off. My opinion, he did flawlessly (though I am not a woman to be sure). Further, this was not an attempt to get into the inclusion politics that has been big lately. Which, i have to admit has become annoying from much of our media lately. Not that there is inclusion, but how much they keep pushing it at us by talking about it. Its not a big deal at all in this book, just simply is, which I find very refreshing. Reminded me of the Top Gun remake, you had a diverse cast, but they didnt harp on it to remind us all the time. I appreciate that.

So now that I have probably offended someone, I will continue. The story is solid, the characters of great. But the voice acting is outstanding. Very well done and she could lull you into that haze of just listening along one minute, then change the range and have you gripping the edge of your seat the next (not recommended if operating a motor vehicle by the way).

Overall, I cant recommend it enough and think you should give it a shot.

I don’t know where to begin honestly. I don’t want to wreck anyone who reads this review before they listen to it…
So I’ll say that Yang hit this one out of the park! I loved it! The female MC is now one of my favorite!
The female narrator did a phenomenal job! The emotions… she fused them with the words to make the words and characters behind them come alive! She sometimes pulled the emotions out of me and sometimes cheered them out!
I almost cried multiple times. Even if that forfeits the arbitrary “man card,” I don’t mind. A woman with an unborn child dying a hero’s death for both those she cares about and those who abandoned her… yeah, that better drag some emotion out of you.
Yang gave us the words with background and character development while Ellie Gossage brought it alive!

I hope there will be more. I miss Laura and Lana, Team Broom FTW!
