Game changing

Jaclyn is a genius author, narrator, and dietician with endless helpful knowledge about how I can live a more nutritious life. Who knew healthy eating could be so much fun? I particularly enjoyed her voice (and I never say that about audio books, ever). You can tell she’s brilliant and clever and compelling. When’s the sequel?

I Needed to Hear what This Book Delivered

I bought the selection and it sat in my listening library, unheard. I began listening and just finished it. I appreciated her information, her message, and her delivery so much that I ordered the print version. This book worked for me and I highly recommend it.

Great book about making healthy informed decisions

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Jaclyn London cuts through the junk "science" and provides easy to understand advice. She has the credentials to back it up. This book isn't about completely changing your lifestyle. Instead, it provides practical tips so that you can make more gradual changes to improve your health. This book empowers you to make informed choices that are right for you. The narration is great. Overall, this was a very entertaining and informative listen.

Approachable, rational, helpful, and funny!

Dressing On The Side is without a doubt the best food-related book I have ever read. The author possesses something incredibly important, a feature that nearly every other writer in this space lacks: CREDENTIALS. This important book signals a shift from the pseudo-science and wishy-washy self-help characteristics of past "health and diet" books to something real, approachable, and based in facts. Jaclyn London does an incredible job entertaining us while making eating better both realistic and fun. I bought the book AND listened to the audiobook so it would really sink in...then I bought it for my parents and friends.

Like meeting with a dietician

I was expecting this book to be more about examining weight loss science and debunking myths, but, while there is some of that, I wouldn't say it's the focus. The author is not a scientist or science journalist, but a dietitian, who spent years working with clients one and one. And that is what this book feels like, an extended meeting with a dietitian. The focus is on practical advice, pep talks, and reframing thoughts and feelings around food. There were a couple of principles that I am optimistic about implementing, like focusing on what you're eating more of (vegetables), rather than avoiding foods, but while I think it's worth trying, she didn't actually back that advice up with anything, just repeated it many times. As far as I know, eating unlimited fruits and vegetables is just as likely to make me gain weight as lose it. On another note, this book is aimed at urban, professional, young millennial women. There is a whole chapter (out of 11) about how to handle happy hour, another on how to order delivery, another on not being affected by food bloggers and bragging social media posts. None of these things apply to me in the least, and I'm actually a city dwelling, millennial woman... just an anti-social one who lives in a restaurant desert. If you are the intended audience, and want to see a dietitian without seeing a dietitian, I do recommend the book. The narration and writing style are very personable. There is definitely some good information, especially for people who are relative beginners, or have been tossed in the winds of fad diets. If you're already a pro at reading labels, eating whole, primarily plant based foods, and could tell with a glance that ketogenic is bs, you might be a little bored.

Language

I wish I had not purchased this title. So much off color language. It distracts from the message. No need for it for this kind of presentation
