Publisher's summary

Worry about cholesterol. Avoid red meat. Eat whole grains. Could it all be a lie? We live in an era of health hype and nutrition propaganda, and we are suffering for it. Decades of avoiding egg yolks, choosing margarine over butter, and replacing the real foods of our ancestors with low-fat, processed, packaged substitutes have left us with an obesity epidemic, ever-rising rates of chronic disease, and, above all, total confusion about what to eat and why. This is a tragedy of misinformation, food industry shenanigans, and cheap calories disguised as health food. It turns out that everything we've been told about how to eat is wrong. Fat and cholesterol are harmful to your health? Nope - they are crucial to your health. Whole grains are health food? Not even close. Counting calories is the way to lose weight? Not gonna work - nutrients are what matter. Nutrition can come from a box, bag, or capsule? Don't count on it!

In Eat the Yolks, Liz Wolfe debunks all these myths and more, revealing what's behind the lies and bringing the truth about fat, cholesterol, protein, and carbs to light. You'll be amazed at the tall tales we've been told in the name of healthy eating. With wit and grace, Wolfe makes a compelling argument for a diet based on Paleo foods. She takes us back to the foods of our ancestors, combining the lessons of history with those of modern science to uncover why real, whole food - the kind humans ate for thousands of years before modern nutrition dogma led us astray - holds the key to amazing health and happy taste buds. In Eat the Yolks, Liz Wolfe doesn't just make a case for eating the whole egg. She uncovers the shocking lies we've been told about fat, cholesterol, protein, carbs, and calories and brings us the truth about which foods are healthy - and which foods are really harming us.

Good Information

Paleo receives unwarranted criticism. This book, more than any I've read or listened to covers the latest understanding of our nutritional needs, and the real concerns with our food supply. It will help you let go of (with good reason and explanation) ingrained nutritional advice that was the result of poor science. There are many books doing a good job explaining this, but none as accessible with such humor and positive spirit.

Food for thought!

Since this is an audio book one doesn’t get any footnotes, so it is not clear whether what is said is backed by solid, unbiased science, or is personal opinion.
That said, the message seems very well considered and logical, and I will be making some changes to my lifestyle as a result of listening to this book.

True food education!

Liz does an amazing and entertaining job of explaining how food nourishes our bodies. And how to pick out the fake atrocities from the real goodness available in today's vast smorgasbord. For anyone wondering what that low calorie snack pack is really doing for your health, give this a listen. Great tool for anyone wanting to take charge of their own physical and mental well being through real food. #RealFoodLizRocks!

Very Helpful Book

I look forward to putting into place many of the changes Liz recommends. Fortunately I had already known some of what she says - like, that Eggs and Fat are good for us, and grains, not so much. But Liz goes far beyond that. And her humor makes the wide use of facts and figures easier to listen to.

Before I was done listening I had already ordered two physical copies of the book, one for my Mom who was recently told she has high cholesterol, and one for me, since this is that type of book. (I wish Amazon gave discounts on the purchase of physical books after the purchase of an Audible one, but maybe that's just me!)

For all that, I had to go with 4 stars instead of 5, for two fundamental reasons - Liz likes to swear (though she did seem to let up a little as the book went on). And, she makes fairly regular references to Evolution, as if that explains everything. I don't buy Evolution as the explanation. I credit a Creator for the amazing bodies we have and the incredible world we live in. So the evolutionary references got a little tiring, at least for me.

But I'm still glad I have now bought three copies of this book. The nutritional information she shares is important enough for me to put up with those issues.

Keepin ' It Real

Intelligent, informative, witty. This is a must read/listen for anyone interested in the paleo, "real food" lifestyle. It offers honest, common sense information without beating you over the head with guilt trips or diet dogma. The material is delivered in a fun (and funny) way. Liz has a great sense of humor and I found myself chuckling many times throughout the experience. I suggest checking it out.

Great information but a little too snarky.

I almost didn't finish this one because of all the snarky comments. I stalled about three hours in and then came back to it when I saw it recommended in Dr. Ken Berry's book Lies My Doctor Told Me. I'm glad I did. There was some excellent information in it, especially the information on Vitamin D and how sunscreen is likely increasing the occurrence of skin cancer, how dangerous Veganism is and the studies that have shown all vegans eventually suffer from nutrient deficiencies, as well as the author's explanation of Vitamins A and K2 and why we need to obtain these from animal sources. I am using the ketogenic diet right now to correct the damage done by the low fat high carb diet I have been eating for decades, but will take a hard look at Paleo as I near the health goals I have set thanks to this book.

Invaluable

This is a fantastic, well researched book that delved into how our food and nutrition have gotten to the messed up place that it is. The science is sound and presented in a relatable, upfront way. And I'm not always a fan of authors who narrate their own books, but Liz does a great job. The story flows well. This has definitely become one of the top three books I recommend to friends and family who have questions about how I eat, and I highly encourage everyone to check it out. This is one of those books that can change your life!

Best homosapien nutrition science book ever!

While some of the wit interjected throughout the book was lost on me, for the most part it helped the rest of the msterial more mentally digestable.
So appreciative of the information about how our bodies take in nutrients better from animals than plants in many instances.

Meh......

I couldn't finish this one. Sophomoric Humor. Mis- information
about cholesterol and lipids. Rehashed info About keto. If this is the 1st book you listen to about keto, You will probably find it interesting. If not you will struggle to get through it.

Will Read Again and Again

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this audiobook greatly and was sad to have it end. Luckily it is available to listen to over and again. It has been an excellent resource for what is hopefully, a prosperous future for sustainable, clean, natural eating. I highly recommend.
