About this listen
Are you ready to take your next step? To be a great superintendent, you need training. Without this, you may become defensive, learn to accept waste and low standards, or even espouse false concepts that will lead to failure. However, with proper fundamental training, learning from the best builders throughout history, and effectively using the modern concepts of lean, we can guide superintendents to have the best trained role in construction. Right now in our industry, project managers and project engineers are better trained, better paid, and are becoming leaders of the entire team. The positions of superintendents and project managers should be equal, but to be equal, we need to step up and take our place as the driving force of the project.
This book will help you to do that and bring respect back to field positions everywhere. Before writing Elevating Construction Superintendents: The Art of the Builder, I had never found a book available for the art and form of being a superintendent. Yes, there are books about lean; yes, there are books about construction management; and yes, there are books about the skills of a superintendent, but there are none that cover the art of the builder in construction and the back-to-basics fundamental attributes of a true leader in the field.
This is the first edition of the book we need and want for our wonderful builders in the field of construction. This book is filled with principles and actionable steps for assistant superintendents. I invite you to learn these, take massive action, and implement each step one-by-one. Please keep driving until everything on your project brings you joy. That is the measure of success. Expect more, step up, let's go!

In the course of my more than 15 years of experience as an attorney, I’ve worked on billions of dollars’ worth of public construction projects, and I’ve seen them succeed and fail. The general lack of prior experience that many public officials have, when properly acknowledged, can be a great asset, rather than a significant detriment. How is that so? When you come into a project without the burden of prior assumptions based on previous project experience, you can reenvision what a successful project should be, and what your goals should be.

Well thought out and easy to listen
As I'm getting ready to make the life change of going from a self employed general contractor to being an assistant superintendent for a large commercial construction company, I wanted to take in everything I could to make me a competent member of a big and well established team.
I've now listened to this book twice and also purchased a physical copy so I can read it and absorb it even better. It is well written and easy to listen to, and delivers the principles of what it takes to be a great superintendent.
I think every current and future super needs to read this book a few times and put into practice the principles explained in Elevating Superintendents. It also provides other recommended reading, which I've also downloaded and listened to, before re-listening to this book.

Do not Handicap your self as a construction manager by foregoing the reading of this book.
I’m one of those guys that spends a lot of time in details. I truly feel that it’s each person‘s obligation that walks the earth to be a better person than they were the day before, this in the Spirit of personal growth and good custodianship. This applies both personally and professionally is my persistent goal. This book is very well thought out and illustrated through text. I am on my third listening and each time I feel that I leave it a better manager and person then before. Thank you Jason and Katie for the gift. Most sincerely Ralph Pearson

As a new Superintendent without any background in same, but years, decades in the trades, I’m having to train myself as my project manager who hired me said that he’d train me up, but when I pressed him for teaching, his reply was simply, I don’t know how to teach you this. So Thank you for some direction. I look forward to learning more and becoming an effective Superintendent!

Essential for those in the field AND in the office
This is not just for superintendents. Having worked in construction on the design and owner side of things, I still found the wisdom and practices described very valuable. I like how Jason frames that the heart of the problem he is trying to solve is giving those in construction more time with their families, less stress, better physical and mental health. He describes practical solutions based on Lean and many respected books on management.

What the construction management industry has been missing!
Awesome read. I will carry the physical copy around until the day I retire. No one has ever directed reading content toward a construction Superintendent before. This is not a textbook. It won’t teach you how to form a concrete wall or lay sewer pipe. But, it will show you how to plan for the task and compete it on time. I could say so much more great things about the read. But instead I’ll just say this: if your a Superintendent, want to be a Superintendent, or even in a position that has one on your team... READ THIS BOOK NOW. You won’t be disappointed.
