Publisher's summary

Few construction companies fail because of poor building practice; they fail because of poor pricing practice. To succeed in construction, you have to price your jobs to cover all labor, material, and overhead expenses, pay yourself a decent salary, and make a profit that will keep your company thriving. A large part of that is knowing how to figure the correct markup for your business.

But calculating markup is only part of the picture. If you're going to beat the odds and stay in business profitably, you also need to know how to write good contracts, manage your crews, work with subcontractors, and collect on your work. You'll find tried-and-tested formulas here to guarantee profits, with step-by-step instructions and easy-to-follow examples to help you learn how to operate your business successfully. Information is included on how to access the forms and charts used in this book. The principles outlined here apply to all construction-related businesses.

In this hands-on manual, Michael Stone, a highly successful contractor, lecturer, and construction consultant, provides the keys to a profitable business. He covers the business basics of running a construction company, whether you're a general or specialty contractor working in remodeling, new construction, or commercial work.

Markup and profit was an great resource for my construction business. it really helped me understand what I need to be charging to cover the overhead of my business and take home what I needed to. Good book and resource that I go back to consistently when I need to fine tune business practices.

A must read for EVERY contractor

Michael conveys his experience and knowledge of the construction industry in every word. Unlike many other books out there, he doesn’t include any fluff, and instead wrote a cover to cover “how-to” book for any contractor, regardless of their stage in the process. Also, all forms and materials referenced in the audiobook are free at the mentioned URL in the book, in almost every chapter, so if you are having a hard time understanding the numbers because “you don’t have the figure’s”, you probably aren’t listening well enough! 11/10

Woooow!!!

I’ve been a contractor claiming to be successful reading and implementing things from other great business books. THIS BOOK IS BY FAR THE BEST YET. The practices and lessons in this book I have not heard in other books. If you want to get your contracting company in order and have it support your life properly. This is the book. I can’t say enough. Thank you Mr. Stone and your team.

Excellent!

The cost of this book is nothing compared to the million in value. I am a HVAC contractor for 7 years, for many years I thought I was doing it right, until last year where I sat down to see the numbers with a bookkeeper! In results. 1st the accountant I hired in the beginning had not file my taxes for 3 years to start with, I used to see the big balances on the suppliers but also a good positive balance on my account, credit cards etc.
In a few words, I was in $350k debt.
I started to read books, attend to classes spend so much in how to recover from this losses. Now I changed my prices and of course I lost 75% of my clients cuz now I’m was too expensive, finally I had to cut employees raised the prices and start again, I’m still on the way, but, this book has thought me how to make business in simple ways. I surrender to Mr. Michael, I have never listen to a trainer like you! Thank you, very much thank you!!
