Supplement to Content Inc.

If you liked Content Inc., then this is like a continuation. Unlike the former, it seems like there is no updated version, so the info is a tad bit dated, for example Google+ and Vine are mentioned in this book, but the principles still apply.

I Should Have Started With This One...

I have read (and listened to) several books on content and online marketing. Most of them have several good points and one or two great points. Epic Content Marketing is the book that I wish I had started with! I thought that the listening experience would be filled with a lot of "yeah, I've heard this already" moments but it has been exactly the opposite - I have set an endless stream of bookmarks and I plan to go back and listen to the whole thing again later, in addition to studying the bookmark moments. Lots of gold here!

Excellent book for marketing content

So I picked up Joe's other book "Content Inc." previous to this one. I liked the other book so much that I figured I'd see what else Joe had and I grabbed this book. I know it's cliche to say this but "I'm glad I did".

Joe definitely understands the subject of marketing content and illustrates his expertise in this book. This being my second book from Joe now,.. I'd like to think I know a little bit as well. I've already had to refer back to a few things he covered here so it's already been worth it for me. If you've already read his other book as I have, then you'll notice some reoccurring subjects and perhaps a story or two will ring a "deja vu" bell for you. He is talking about the same subject matter... so expect it. This book definitely has it's own flavor so don't let that deter you.

Joe talks about discovering your niche and becoming the best in your niche market with an approach through social media as well as a number of different content mediums to give you a series of options for distributing your content. He shows you how to implement a plan to measure your effectiveness and how to analyze your gains and losses.

Recommended for anyone looking to market content in today's world. Tons of references to refer to outside this book with real world examples of strategies and techniques along with practical advice and solid information.

With all that said... if you've read marketing books before... the formula of building a mailing list and regularly releasing your own high quality content consistently will sound familiar. Good place to start if you're looking to tackle the subject but it shouldn't be your last stop either. Enjoyed listening to the book and will be referring back.

Great for B2B companies

Would you consider the audio edition of Epic Content Marketing to be better than the print version?

Personally I prefer audio over print every time, but it seemed that there were a lot of visuals offered in the print version that I missed out on. All were available online, but I never looked at them.

What did you like best about this story?

The topic of content marketing is one that I'm familiar with. However, this book gave me a lot of "ammo" to convince my team that content marketing is critical for our business.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laughed a few times. Pulizzi has a great sense of humor. Nothing that I can remember off hand. Was enjoyable to listen too.

Any additional comments?

If you've read Content Inc you might not need to read this book. The two cover somewhat similar ground. However, if you are in the B2B industry this is likely more important than Content Inc. Epic Content mainly pitches the need for content marketing in today's business world. This is the kind of book I'd suggest to team members that don't "get it".
