About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

The TikTok fantasy sensation that's sold over half a million copies, perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Jennifer L. Armentrout.

'I hope you burn so bright that you scorch your Golden King down to ash.'

After 10 years, I have left the grips of one king only to fall into the hands of another.

I have fought the terrifying Red Raid Pirates, endured the murder of those I care about and survived the frozen planes of Orea, only to find myself a prisoner of the army of Fourth Kingdom.

Leading the army is Commander Rip, a notorious warrior whose name is whispered in taverns and street corners all over the six kingdoms.

But as I get to know him, I realise that the tales of his brutality aren't true.

He is something else. He is fae.

Part of the powerful and magical people who are said to have abandoned this world entirely 300 years ago.

But here one stands before me. And when he turns his onyx eyes upon me, I fall captive.

For an entirely different reason.

As his army marches towards a battle with the king I once adored, I must decide.

Midas or Rip.

Loyalty or freedom.

In this game of war and love, it's my turn to choose.

As with most books the second one is way better than the first one. The first one I found a little boring I didn’t get what auren wanted with Midas but reading the second one the plot starts to develop a lot and things start to become interesting I’ll definitely buy the third one now. I love the narrator she’s doing a great job!

I love the narrator

I enjoyed Glint way more than I did Gild!

The plot is moving along in a good pace and we were introduced to more characters, which made Auren and the story more interesting. There’s also more world building and less of King Midas which made this more enjoyable, because I hate that guy.

I liked the world building and the introductions to new characters (I know I’ll love these!) and the character growth for Auren- a much needed one. I also felt like I connected more with her and her experience in this book than the first one. I’m also more engaged in the development of the plot and story!

Also, the ending of this book was very interesting and I did not see that coming!

Overall this was better, but I’m still missing something. I don’t know what it is yet. I just know it’s something and I’m very much invested to continue Auren’s story.

Still ok

Why do you have to sound like either a petulant child or an old granny? sigh instead of a young girl fighting for her life, her safety. It doesn’t blend well with the character and this book and story is beautiful.. but oh well not the voice.

Sigh

More plot than book 1 but predictable. Perspective/narrator 3 comes in so late it's weird.

FMC is petulant and narrator makes it worse
