HOW TO LIVE IN THE NOW

HOW TO LIVE IN THE NOW
I have read the book (I like books in paper more than audio-books).
And I agree; living in the now is a great thing. Something to strive for, if you want. Great the book takes the quest for The Now, presence, seriously and giving down-to-earth exercises to practice becoming familiar with The Now.
I didn’t like the part in the end about how there is no time – it didn´t quite fit with the topic? Why give priority to a useless, intellectual concept instead of giving us a method to gain consciousness so we can stop doing the things that doesn´t work for us any longer? Shortly; I missed a part about The Work in the book. The Work is an effective method to come to value and stay in the present, a method the author is very familiar with. Why isn´t it mentioned?

Timeless wisdom meets contemporary brain research

The simplicity of this book belies the complexity of the ideas it contains. In just over 3 hours, Ernest Holm Svendsen manages to distill the core practices of complex wisdom traditions like yoga, explain them in terms of the fundamentals of brain function, AND prescribe a “training program” to achieve the happiness that comes from truly living in the now. There’s no spiritual jingoism here, but rather a clear-eyed, matter-of-fact explication that has the potential to catapult a reader to a new level of contentment despite the twists and turns of life. With one big “if”... and that is, IF the reader heeds Svendsen’s exhortations to actually DO the “training program” he provides. It’s not enough to read about it, it must be experienced through practice. Fortunately for us, Svendsen has taken great pains to make that work as simple as possible, from his clear prose to the summary of practice he provides at the end of the book (and offers on his website for the audiobook audience—be sure to listen carefully for the link!). And it doesn’t hurt that his warm and lilting narration makes it feel as if one is listening to a captivating story.

Refreshing and inspiring!
Ernest points us to self awareness, and explains what it really means to be present in the now. Why is that important?  Because identifying the constant background noise in our mind, and learning that it is repetitive and temporary is the way to mental freedom, and a richer life experience.
Practical steps to our inner wisdom; and many reminders that “there is only now” when we are physically, mentally, and emotionally present in the moment.
What does living in the now mean to you, today?
“How to live in the now” points to the emptiness beyond personality and identity, and invites you to find by yourself that there is much more to life than the stories we tell ourselves.

A simple to understand guide to live in the now

The book How to live in the now delivers what it promises. I am a reader, who normally skip the exercises in books. For the first time I did most of the exercises in this book and I noticed the differences. I feel more connected with the now.

The book is easily readable, simple to understand and gives profound theoretical background on the theme’s it addresses.

I can advice everybody to read or hear this book. I read several books on this subject and this book has the most profound impact on me.
