Publisher's summary

Have you struggled to keep food down for several months now? Do you remember the last time you ate without feeling weighed down and guilty? When was the last time you looked in the mirror without grimacing? I can help you.

This book is dedicated to those suffering with an eating disorder called Bulimia Nervosa. I am writing based on my experience with the disease. The personal accounts within this book can aid in identifying and overcoming this disorder. Too many teen girls walk the halls of school living in their heads and starving their bodies. This book can help you to see the beautiful girl in the mirror, enjoy food again and begin talking about your feelings without fear of judgment.

Twenty years ago, I was caught in the grips of Bulimia Nervosa. The disorder made me feel as though I had an anchor inside of me. I stood at 5 foot 2 inches, weighted 92 pounds, and wore a size zero in jeans. I will relate to you within this book the ways to beat this eating disorder.

Eating disorders can take their toll on you, your relationships, and your life. I have written this book as a guide for you to find an outlet for your thoughts, coping mechanisms for your stress and a way forward in your daily interactions with family, friends, and peers.

It is important to understand, this disease is not attention seeking, but instead a reaction to overattentive environments. If you read through this book, you will find tips and guides to cope with school, sports, family, and friends. It is not easy being a teenage girl, especially in high school. This guide serves to help navigate the daily pressures young women are under in their everyday lives.

Felt like having an real, honest conversation

Listening to this audiobook felt like having an honest conversation with someone who truly understands the pain and isolation of living with Bulimia Nervosa. The author doesn’t just provide information—she opens up about her own experience with the disorder, making it incredibly personal and relatable. I felt like she was speaking directly to me, sharing her struggles and victories in a way that made me believe that recovery is not only possible but within reach.

Well Written

The author does a beautiful job of writing about such a hard topic. Hard for the one suffering and hard for the family members. Shannon does a great job pulling from real life examples and stories so the reader feels less alone and more comfortable. Teens who suffer with this feel a great amount of shame, guilt and anxiety. I thought the tips on eating meals as well as communication with those closest to you were very valuable.

The book for anyone with Bulimia nervosa

I enjoyed this book and found the information current and easy to read (listen to as well). Chapter 6 was probably my favorite, "Steps Toward Peace," as she provided excellent tips and suggestions to manage Bulimia, all backed by science papers etc. I recommend this book to anyone who is suffering from or knows someone who could benefit from the info contained within.

Compassionate

And resourceful. The narrator spoke directly to the teen and reassured them that they can overcome this. This was heartfelt and I think a good help to teens in this position. The book had many good tips and strategies for persevering.

Gentle but Powerful

I have known people, in my family, and many friends of all genders, who have struggled with the problems addressed in this book. Having well written books like this on the topic made accessible to everyone is so important in combatting the issues and building the confidence of our teenage communities. I think this book does a good job of keeping a gentle tone, siding with the reader instead of chastising them, while simultaneously firmly stating facts and providing a strong guide.
