Publisher's summary

Is your daughter struggling with an eating disorder? How can you be sure? Do you remember the last time she ate a meal rather than moving food around the plate? How often does she finish a meal in its entirety? Can you be sure she's alright? I can help you.

This book is dedicated to helping parents understand an eating disorder called Anorexia Nervosa. I am writing based on my experience with the disease. Too many parents go through the motions of work, home, small talk and repeat with their daughters. This book can help identify the patterns and pitfalls of anorexia in your daughter.

Twenty years ago, I was caught in the grips of Anorexia Nervosa. The disorder made me feel as though I was cutting myself on the inside. I stood at 5 foot 2 inches, weighed 92 pounds, and wore a size zero in jeans. I will relate to you the ways I beat this eating disorder and how you can help your daughter do the same.

It is important to understand, this disease is not attention seeking, but instead a reaction to overattentive environments. If you listen through this book, you will find tips and guides to understand your daughter's struggle. This guide serves to help navigate the tightrope of a highly delicate topic with your daughter.

Today we find ourselves interacting more through mass media and phone applications than on an individual level. It would be nice to be able to sit down and have a sincere talk about our feelings, relationships, and stressors. Instead, daily, most girls in your daughter's immediate circle are fighting for "likes" and approval of their surrounding groups.

Can you honestly say your daughter looks happy? Just generally. Are you noticing her eating habits too much or too little? Do you discuss her or interact with her at the dinner table? There is a clear difference. I can show you the way forward.

Important to recognize symptoms!

This is a comprehensive guide to understanding what a girl may be going through if she has an eating disorder. I found it interesting to learn the difference between anorexia and bulimia. And finally, the chapter on reconnecting offered countless suggestions on how to help a child after the recovery process. Very informative!

Great for Parents and Teachers

This book is a superb informative guide for parents, or even teachers, on understanding what Anorexia Nervosa is and what symptoms and causes may be. If you are a parent who suspects their daughter may have an eating disorder but you don't know how to talk to her about it, this author guides you through her own experience and introduces proven methods of opening communication about a sensitive topic with your daughter. If you are a teacher, this will inform you of some of the signs you may see in your student's daily habits that could be symptoms of a deeper problem you may want to bring up to the parents. And with the guidance of this book, you will have a few tools to use to bring up such a sensitive topic with those parents. This book is really about understanding what young women are facing today and acknowledging the lengths they may go to cope with today's pressures. Opening honest and sincere conversations about those root issues and how to deal with them from a place of understanding is good for both parents and teachers alike.

Great for parents!

This audiobook is great for parents who aren't sure if their child is having trouble with anorexia and want to learn more. My favorite part of this book is the topic on communication since I find this can be one of the hardest things to figure out especially when kids get to their teens. Without solid and constant communication is hard to really know what's going on with your child and if they are having issues with anorexia. Excellent book!

I also appreciated how the author tackles some of the common misconceptions surrounding anorexia nervosa, and emphasizes the importance of taking a holistic approach to recovery. This includes not only focusing on the physical symptoms of the disorder, but also addressing the underlying emotional and psychological issues that may be contributing to it.

How to approach such a sensitive topic

The part I found very valuable was the practical guidance on how to approach such a sensitive topic. The book explains the importance of navigating conversations around eating habits carefully—there’s a big difference between discussing your daughter and interacting with her at the dinner table, and the author does an excellent job of explaining how to approach these moments with care and empathy.
