About this listen

Assassins don’t retire; they reincarnate.

For nearly all of my life, I trained to become a master assassin, but at the height of my career, it all fell apart. I was betrayed, ambushed, and left bleeding out on the streets of London. Just before my death, though, I was offered a choice: Stay and let my life come to a swift and brutal end, or become the personal assassin of a god in another world. It wasn't a hard decision.

But this new world isn’t like the one I left. It operates by a completely different set of rules and a strange system that I don’t understand. I’m going to have to learn fast if I hope to survive in this land of myth and magic. All of my skills, and several new ones, will be put to the test as I receive my first contract. And new world or not, they have no idea who they’re up against.

Isekai Assassin is a fast-paced story set in a Gamelit dark-fantasy world, written by the best-selling author of the Wyvern Academy series.

What listeners say about Isekai Assassin: Volume 1

Highly rated for:

The Audiobook Follows The Story Of An Assassin From 18th Century London Who Is Transported To A Fantasy World With Game-like Mechanics. While The Unique Premise And Detailed World-building Are Praised, The Narrative Suffers From Slow Pacing, Weak Character Development, And Underutilized Litrpg Elements. The Protagonist's Journey As An Assassin In This New World Is Intriguing, But The Romance Subplot And Repetitive Scenes Detract From The Overall Experience. Nonetheless, The Engaging Storyline And Complex Protagonist Keep Listeners Invested In The Narrative.

So freaking good

This book was absurdly good! Excellent character development and exciting combat scenes. Just enough stats to keep you updated without bogging down the story. I love where this is going and I cannot wait for more!

The narrator was excellent!

It was an okay story. I'm not upset I purchased it and I finished it, unfortunately I'll not be getting the next book. Part of it really was quite good, unfortunately the main character was inconsistent and extremely conceited. I don't want to give spoilers but instances like "don't kill unless necessary" proceeds to kill everyone "can't get information from a dead man" instantly kill said man without actually attempting to get information. Honestly what saved it the most was the voice of the narrator.

Highly Recommend

I spent quite a bit of time skipping over this title and not getting into it. Now that I listened to it, I was thoroughly impressed. With most types of litrpg books, there is usually something that just does not fit or seems off with setting or character reactions; but this is set up and done well to the point there is none of that. This book is not perfect, neither is the performance; but both are done quite well which makes this book an enjoyable read (listen). Frankly, I am not sure how I would make either the book or performance better having said that before...though I am definitely going to continue with the series, so feel free to give this a shot, it is well worth it. P.S. Alice is an amazing side character

OP, but not OP Assassin.

Loved how it all starts reminds me of Dishonored. I also love the 1800's assassin thrown into a fanticy world with a modern RPG system. It also take his experience into account, and that true experience is just as important as any system skills if not more so. Just wish there was a female voice actress for the younger female parts.

I see why people say it's not much of an isekai

First, the performance is amazing. The accents are great. The characters are unique and consistent. You couldn't ask for better.

Second, I see why people say it's not much of an isekai. It's an isekai, but almost a reverse isekai. The book is more about how his skills are so good from the real world that he doesn't need the skills or skill ups from the new world. Because of that, the leveling is slow and almost pointless. They rarely even talk about the skills past the initial breakdown and the random skill ups.

Third, it's still a good book. I enjoyed lslistening to.it so much I am listening to the next one as I type this review.
