Story
You picked up this book because your breakup has been reduced to something that you feel you must “win” to emotionally survive and move on. This reduction can only take place if you were involved with a toxic person. Toxic people are selfish, empathetically bankrupt, and have a limited relationship with reality. Anyone who feels validated by exploiting your hunger for theirs is toxic - to your peace, your life, and your mental health.

Story
A guy who rejects or breaks up with you should no longer exist in your life. Contacting him or allowing him to stay in touch with you will make you work harder and harder to convince him that you’re worth his love and attention, and it will compel you to play that ugly and unwinnable game called Chase-a-Man. The best way to avoid this ugly game and break his spell over you is to cut the guy off (cease all communications and interactions) for a set period of time, or in some cases, keep him cut off out of your life indefinitely.

Story
Real heartbreak is unmistakable. We think of nothing else. We feel nothing else. We care about nothing else. Yet while we wouldn't expect someone to return to daily activities immediately after suffering a broken limb, heartbroken people are expected to function normally in their lives, despite the emotional pain they feel. Now psychologist Guy Winch imagines how different things would be if we paid more attention to this unique emotion - if only we can understand how heartbreak works, we can begin to fix it.

What could possibly be “lucky” about addiction? Absolutely nothing, thought Laura McKowen when drinking brought her to her knees. As she puts it, she “kicked and screamed . . . wishing for something - anything - else” to be her issue. The people who got to drink normally, she thought, were so damn lucky. But in the midst of early sobriety, when no longer able to anesthetize her pain and anxiety, she realized that she was actually the lucky one. Lucky to feel her feelings, live honestly, really be with her daughter, change her legacy.

Story
In the tradition of Cynthia Heimel and Chelsea Handler, and with the boisterous iconoclasm of Amy Sedaris, Julie Klausner's candid and funny debut I Don't Care about Your Band sheds light on the humiliations we endure to find love - and the lessons that can be culled from the wreckage. I Don't Care about Your Band posits that lately the worst guys to date are the ones who seem sensitive. It's the jerks in nice guy clothing, not the players in Ed Hardy, who break the hearts of modern girls.

The word conquer has changed meaning for Bryan Anderson. As a U.S. army sergeant in Iraq, it meant taking down the enemy. After becoming Iraq’s fourth triple amputee from a roadside explosive, what he had to conquer got a bit more personal. On October 23, 2005, the moment Bryan looked down and realized he no longer had legs, he cracked a joke. It was a tragedy that could break many, but Bryan transformed it into something positive, something that propelled him forward.

Yet even after she arrived, she found herself in the same old chase for the next best thing…somewhere else. And it left her in a state of anxiety and deep depression. Our hyper-connected era has led us to believe life should be a highlight reel - where what matters most is perfect beauty, instant success, and ready applause. Yet, as Hannah learned, nothing about faith, relationships, or character is instant. So she took up a new mantra: be where your feet are.

We enter our romantic relationships with great love, hope, and excitement—we've found the 'one', so we plan and forge our futures together. But sometimes, for many different reasons, relationships come undone; they don't work out. Commonly, we view this as a personal failure, rather than an opportunity. And instead of honoring what we once meant to each other, we hoard bitterness and anger, stewing in shame and resentment. Sometimes even lashing out in destructive and hurtful ways, despite the fact that we’re good people at heart.

I Was Devastated, Then This Audio Came Along
I loved it...highly recommend it. Witty, fun and never ceases to remind you that you are not alone. Interestingly narrated by both a male and a female the two perspectives and sets of experiences give additional depth and understanding to what is primarily a chick's book. Absolutely would recommend it...especially as a gift for ANY woman you know whether going thru her FIRST breakup or her FIFTIETH. Enjoy!

One of the best 12 steps out there!
It's a good book. Read it if you're fresh out of a breakup or nearly there. Guy or girl (I'm a guy) the advice is the same. And believe me, if you listen and abide by it, it will make the healing process fast and as pain free as it can be.
Chin up, kid.

good book
Great for immediate post breakup.
I read it to get closure 1 year post breakup, and was not so relevant, but the narrator is funny and fun to listen to

Life Changer
If you could sum up It's Called a Breakup Because It's Broken in three words, what would they be?
Life-Changing, Wake-Up! Experience
What did you like best about this story?
My favorite part of this experience was how the writers did not tell me what I WANTED to hear, but just what I NEEDED to hear. When it came to a dysfunctional relationship, there was no sugar coating. The authors write with a lot of love and humor, but at all times…they tell you like it is. I felt like a stranger, who does not know my flaws or qualities, was telling me exactly what happened and why. I got answers to all my questions. But in the end, realized that no matter what the question is, the answer is that this particular relationship ‘is broken and will never be fixed’ , and the answers are irrelevant – unless they serve to make me a smarter woman.I feel empowered and blessed to have gone through this hell and to have found this book. I am ashamed of who I have been and look forward to living the life I have dreamed of all along.
Have you listened to any of various’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This reading was like taking a pain killer medication but without the side effects. It went right to the pain and created an immunity from not only this dysfunctional relationship, but from future ones.

Where does It's Called a Breakup Because It's Broken rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
one of the most entertaining
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
yes but I did it in 2 sittings. And I'm halfway through it again a day later on my third sitting :)

May have just saved my last shed of dignity!
This book, while many times I felt like crying, had me laughing and showed me not only what I am feeling is totally normal, it showed me exactly what I didn't want to become to my ex. I am so thankful I listened to it. It truly did help me to get started on getting over and moving on to my fabulous new life. Whatever that may be or look like.

Awesome insight, narration is meh..
I love this book. I wish Greg would have narrated. So much of the book is made special by the interesting writers and the two narrators sound sterile and robotic.
