About this listen

The hero’s journey doesn’t always end after the Dark Lord has been slain.

After being betrayed by the very kingdom he saved, Jacob Stone forsook his title of Hero. Now he lives the simple life of a barkeep. Yet even that life is irrevocably erased when a young woman named Enyo appears before him.

She claims to be the daughter of the former Dark Lord and has come seeking his aid. He’d normally never consider lending her a hand, but when she tells him that she knows of a way for him to return home, he’s left with little recourse.

His journey will take him across the kingdom of Terrasole, toward the place where it all began. If he succeeds, he’ll return to the home he’d been stolen from. If he fails… well, he won’t live long enough to regret failing.

this title has elements that relate to esthetics of a rogue hero anime so any fan of that will greatly enjoy this. with that pleasant surprise it made a couple work days go by with great enjoyment.

Great protagonists, great ending. Performance could have been better, but for the most part it was passable.

This was enjoyable!

Okay. I liked the beginning of the story. I had a good premise Get.
Key go home somehow they drag that out for almost 20 hours when it could have taken them barely a week. So like 4 hours of book time.
It's not like there were story things stopping They just kept getting sidetracked by random things.

This is a story about how not to commit to anything

This book was a great value publisher's pack with two books. A good isekai that was fun and witty humor.

Good Iseaki

This was a great series and well worth a listen. While it was not one hundred percent perfect, it was still well crafted and entertaining. If the summary sounds good to you, then I would give it a go.

A Solid Story

I liked the premise and the beginning wasn’t bad. Would built was nicely done just needed more. Over all the characters felt insubstantial. If the mc could take out the dark lord why is he caught off guard so much. Even being out of shape doesn’t account for that. Others things in the story felt shoe horned into a anime isekai format… if you are 20 or younger this book could be for you. If not try elsewhere.

Honestly, good book for young adults that have never read a great book. Fell flat for me.

I love the fact that these two books are a complete story. While I love long book series, sometimes you want an actual end. Brandon Varnell does an excellent job building this world, creating awesome and heinous characters, and telling a compelling story without compressing the story too much. It's just long enough to have heft, without going so long you get bored.

I think most people who enjoy high fantasy, isekai, and romance will like this book. There's no explicit scenes, but there is adult language and situations, so I'd recommend 14+ here.

A great duology

Love how the story didn’t derail like some books do .. thanks a lot … highly recommend to all to read

The story

For an anime inspired western story, this is better than most. Guy goes to another world becomes a hero, falls, gets the girl, saves the day, then happy ending. The last aspect elevates it since most of these stories never end.

It is very heavily influenced by late 00s to early 10s anime, with wholesale borrowing of thematic elements which will somewhat dictate your feelings towards the work.

While the story and wordplay are fine, it could have used a little editing to make the story flow better. Some parts are too long and others too short.

Pleasantly Average
