About this listen

Now or never...

It's the last chance for Cynthia Brightly, the town's most bewitching belle. Driven out of London by a secret scandal, she must find a grand husband at the Redmonds' house party before word of her downfall spreads all over England. Unfortunately, someone at Pennyroyal Green is already privy to the whispers of broken engagements and dueling lovers: Miles Redmond, renowned explorer and - thanks to his brother's disappearance - heir to the family's enormous fortune.

Miles set his sights on Cynthia once, at a time when the ambitious beauty thought herself too good for a second son. But now he's heir apparent, relishing his control. He strikes a bargain with her: he'll keep Cynthia's steamy secrets and help her find a husband among the guests - in exchange for a single kiss.

What could be the harm in a simple kiss? Cynthia is about to discover that it's enough to unleash fierce passion - and that Miles Redmond is most certainly like no other lover in the world.

Contains mature themes.

Another great story from Julie Anne Long

Julie Anne Long never disappoints. Even her less brilliant stories with somewhat convoluted plots are still great, satysfying and refreshingly different from other historical romance stories. Her characters are real people, with their own flaws, insecurities and quriks, and this is precisely what makes Ms Long's writing so special, at least to me.
I loved Miles and Cynthia's journey towards their happy ending. It's one of my favourite books in the Pennyroyal Green series, although I like all of them.
The narration from Justine Eyre is good as usual.

Good read

I’m not familiar with Julie Anne Long as an author but I’ve now read two of her books and she’s definitely gaining ground as a go-to storyteller for me. I like the premise of these Pennyroyal Green books — one character believes they are destined to be with one character only to realize that their true love is another. Cute premise that sets up great flashpoints for the couples to overcome. One thing that makes this book stand out is the humor. There are several scenes that made me howl with laughter (eg, the drinking game). I would gladly re-read that scene every day!
Two things that distract for me:
1) the author loves using looooong uber-detailed omniscient expository. I mean 4-5 minutes of detailed description of what a character is thinking. It makes the book drag. They’re so long that at the end of them I’d forgotten what the scene was about!
2) While I like Justin Eyre, I didn’t love her as the narrator for this series. I think Kate Reading would have been a better choice.

All in all, worth the credit.

Pennyroyal Green is here! Don't miss it!

Step into the Pig and Thistle and begin your next romantic adventure in the Pennyroyal Green Series. Julie Anne Long writes with such affection for the town and its characters that you'll want to move in. Each book in the series is a stand alone romantic adventure, but it is best to read the series in order so you can learn more and more about the town and its denizens as well as the arc of a storyline about the Eversea/Redmond curse that runs through all the books. No one puts more heart into her romances than Julie Anne Long, giving us strong characters with loads of very compelling attraction. And this book has some laugh out loud moments as love plays havoc with formality and duty.

I have read this series in print twice, so I highly recommend it, and I can't wait for the next books to arrive to Audible!

Good

Not as good as the first one but I still found this funny at times. No real plot twists and the intimate moments were not as realistic but I have high hopes for the next one😉

this is a good one--funny and likeable

I was trepidatious about listening to this one after the last novel I listened to by this author featured such detestable people being endlessly unlikeable, but happily this book is the polar opposite. All of the characters here are three dimensional and likeable and interesting, there are many extremely funny bits, and overall I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and the performance of the narrator. Onto the next book in the series!

Miles & Cynthia Story

I do like this series! Funny & witty, the characters are all a tad bit touched but this makes the story simply fun to listen to! On to the 3rd book!

Has Everything You Want

I liked reading this book very much. It has great characters, with terrific dialogue. It has everything you could want in a romance, from problems to solve and steamy sex. It kept me turning pages from start to finish. I do not think you will be disappointed. I know I enjoyed it.
