About this listen

His Lordship survives.

“Leonard Erand Vandersteen. I’ve been waiting for you.”

It should have been a simple expedition. Gather haze crystals, kill hivelings, and return to the caverns. That’s what it should have been, but rarely are things so simple. After falling into the depths of the lower floors, Lev and the remains of the vanguard must survive in uncharted terrain and find their way back to civilization. Along the way, an ancient being drags Lev deeper into the abyss. With promises of forgotten power, it sends Lev and his party even further into the annals of this world’s history.

It has it's moments

The book has some really interesting moments, but around the third quarter mark it really jumps all over the place and feels very difficult to follow. The Narrator does a really good job at showing emotion and keeping volume levels at a good level with no real changes.

Excellent gobo venture

A nice listen to for travel purposes. Love the new upsurge of nonhuman or elf characters taking the lead. Great action and mood of the gobo venture just keeps going

Story is still interesting, but bits need improvement in my opinion.

Honestly the story is interested, but I noticed issues that made it hard to listen for long periods without getting somewhat confused.

First, the voices tend to be too similar. This is for both the male and strongly so for the female voices.

Second, The story would sound better if the scene buildup and transitions were more clearly defined. Especially if the POV is changing to a separate character. At times it was very confusing to remember who was where and doing what. For example Lev is in the carverns and the next thing I hear is how they are suddenly on the surface running down his people's enemy.

Lastly, Combat. The language used wasn't engaging and made it feel flat. I would suggest focusing on a single POV and use their perspective to improve the feel of combat scenes

Overall, I still want to give the series a chance, but improvements are needed. I'm not sure if this book was originally written in a different language, but hopefully if it was the original doesn't have these same issues.

not bad for a continuation.

For book two this seems like where the story really takes off. Book one was primarily building backstop and the characters. But here is where the real game for power begins.

excellent narration and unique voices.

I was given this book at my request for an honest review.
