About this listen

Contains books one and two of the Modern Paladin, a LitRPG adventure series.

Modern Paladin, book one

William Shawcro is an ordinary young man, living an ordinary life, when out of nowhere he finds himself in the body of his longtime character, Archaeus. Constrained by a strict Paladin code, he must navigate this shocking new world of magic all the while questioning whether it's just a dream.

After facing frightening conflicts and becoming entangled in this new world's politics, William quickly realizes the life may not be all it's cracked up to be. While he is quite overpowered - having made it to level 20 - brute force can't resolve some situations.... All he can do is keep pushing forward and discover the truth of why he is here and if he can ever return home. Forced to play as a righteous paladin, he'll have to watch his mouth and kill orcs. Lots of orcs.

Allies, book two

Settling into the game takes time. Even after several months of living in the body of Archaeus, William is still coming to terms with what life is like in this strange new world as his tabletop Paladin. But he quickly finds that he has only scratched the surface of what is going on....

Things are looking up, until the town he is charged with falls under attack. His might alone cannot protect his people, and he takes on several new protégés on his way to discovering the truths that surround him.

William does his best to meet these new challenges and finds out that he is not alone in the trials he is working to overcome. Unfortunately, he quickly realizes that playing as Archaeus with Dice and Paper and actually being Archaeus are two very different things - and he has a long way to go if he’s going to walk the road that lies ahead.

I'm enjoying getting to know these characters and can't wait for the next in the series. That being said, I appreciate that the book doesn't end on a total cliffhanger.

Interesting take on an RPG world

Phenomenal books. It was a bit slow at the beginning but most good stories are. I can’t wait for the series to continue.

Bad romance

"Modern Chivalry: Christina's White Knight from Another World"

Despite a promising start, it devolves into slice of life character worship centered around a random barmaid from a tavern. Damsel in distress is required? Just kidding. Walk into a bar, and fixate on the first girl who talks to you? Literature.
It was disappointingly mundane, with seemingly tacked-on "core mechanics" that are progressively more neglected, like there are two authors, one writing wordy romantic fiction, and another brief spurts of nerdy technicality. There aren't gratuitous erotic scenes, but the book still seems like it is some type of romance trying to cash in on the LitRPG trend.
There may be better tags for how much of the story is meaningless conversation and observation. Breaking sentences into fragments to fluff the count is irritating, diminishing the potential of the performance before a word is spoken. It's boring, and spends so long trying to convince you otherwise, you might forget what the book is supposed to be about.

tl;dr
Not action and adventure, as much as confusion and fixation.
For fun, drink when you hear "Christina". Water, and only a little, for your own safety.

Modern chivalry (spoilers)

I was not expecting much since it was free with my subscription, but it was a good and simple story.

I liked how the character he became was based off of the table top Dungeons & Dragons. and how it seemed to lightly make the MC to roll play as a lawful good paladin.

I am also happy that there was no status spam. and all roll checks was performed in the background and only lightly mentioned here and there.

surprisingly good

I loved these books, it was different, refreshing. Are they going to be more in this tale?

If it is still free, just get it. Solid LitRPG with odd mechanics, but based soundly in D&D.

Others are like, we isnt this dude slaying more tail instead of just the one girl, but A) He is a 24 yr old D&D nerd - a personality change to a stud wouldn't fit. and B) The aforementioned odd mechanics.

Get it. Pretty good and I finished it straight (no pun intended to Griego).

Get it
