About this listen

Sometimes the urge to put out something stressful or unpleasant, like calling to make the doctor to book an appointment or doing homework is most times too strong to resist, even though we know we are going to do it eventually, and we can feel the pressure building as we keep postponing. Let face it; procrastination affects all of us - at least a little. But procrastination is more complex than laziness or bad time management. Research has shown that people who often put away task are found to experience some high level of stress. In fact, every field of psychology has a different perspective on what it means.

On a neuro-psychology level; procrastination as a failure of executive function, which is the skill set that allows us to plan ahead, prioritize, and carry out tasks.

On the other hand, a social psychologist may see it as a problem related to emotional regulation or a step to avoid bad feeling like stress.

An evolutional psychologist thinks it is partly genetic. Even though they all have different opinions of what procrastination is; researchers can agree that procrastination is not a feeling you get overwhelmed with. Although none of us is immune to procrastination sneaks upon us all, but to some; it’s a worse degrading disease that has eaten them deeply.

So the question is; what is procrastination? Why do we do it? And how can we beat it?
