After adventuring beyond the wall for over a year, Elaine has her triumphant return home!

A high level doesn't mean all challenges are solved, though. She's got a brand new hatchling to try and keep alive. General Augustus staged a military coup, becoming Emperor Augustus. Julius is missing. Artemis is enslaved.

Will she be able to keep Auri alive? Free Artemis? Find out what happened with Julius? And can she avoid the machinations of the new Emperor?

Most importantly—Is her family still alive?

This book is one of the best yet! As always I can’t wait to see where this goes. I don’t know if I like the Knight chapter, but we will see if it is a the right choice in the next book. That being said I love the last chapter I wish it was a little more in-depth.
As always the narration was superb!!! I think Andrea Emmes is one of the storytellers. Great job!

The series I can’t wait for the next book!

Great book overall, better than the previous one. However the end left a bit to be desired

Better than previous book

to be perfectly clear, I don't think the story is the best I've ever heard, and I preferred the previous book as far as Elaine's story goes. that said, the ending is dripping with dangling storylines and the interludes are some of the most fun writing I've ever heard. If you've made it this far in the series, you're probably already in it for the long haul, but in case you aren't, let me be the first to say that you should be, and to keep going.

my expectations were charred to crisps

I have over 500 bookin my library and this is the first one I have shed a tear for. The last 30 minutes is what got me.

Best one yet

Loved it!

The book was really good all the way through, but the ending was real depressing. I hope the next book would make all this set up and what I had to go through worth it.

Spoilers:

At least with the time skip I feel like majority of the important characters that the reader really care about survived. The time skip event was quite sudden and still can’t believe it happened despite the author telling us it was happening with the interludes in the past books. I feel like this is a good progression in upping the stakes in the story as the old timeline was getting stagnant, where elaine already had everything. Elaine is still naive and has dumb moments as always so now I wish after 10,000 years she can finally grow up. Ironically she never actually used her immortality on herself in this book to timeskip. Overall I really was hooked in the story and make me look forward to the next book.

Best in the series, but really sad it ended it like this

This was way better than the last book, although I did get annoyed at the author's inability to keep Dawn's intelligence consistent. Sometimes she can reason and think well, other times she is an impulsive teen that not only can't think of obvious consequences, but doesn't remember or heed the warnings that others had given her. This was really annoying sometimes. Other than that gripe, I loved the story. I can see why many are salty about the ending, but I guess knowing it was coming helped soften me up to the idea because I don't really mind that much... yet. We shall see what the next book has to offer.

Way Better But Iffy Ending
