About this listen

"With every light comes a shadow." - Dustfall

In a ravaged tribe on the edge of humanity, the suspicious death of a chief thrusts a man into a dark realm for which he is unprepared. When Jonah inherits leadership of the Elk Clan from his father, many in the old man's inner circle question his son's ability to lead the tribe to their winter shelter at the ruins of Eliz. A dark stranger, a journey over hundreds of miles of dangerous highway and clashes with feral gangs will push Jonah to the edge.

From best-selling authors J. Thorn and Glynn James comes Dustfall, a new post-apocalyptic series chronicling one man's challenge and his epic quest to save what remains of humanity.

What listeners say about Shadows of a Lost Age

Highly rated for:

The Story Revolves Around A Post-apocalyptic Tribe Grappling With The Tension Between Long-held Traditions And A Young Chief's Willingness To Embrace Change. While The Concept Is Intriguing And The World-building Engaging, The Pacing Is Often Slow, With Repetitive Dialogue And Underdeveloped Characters. The Story Raises Thought-provoking Questions About Faith, Belief Systems, And The Challenges Of Survival In A Harsh, Post-apocalyptic World. However, Some Readers Found The Lack Of Action And Unsatisfying Ending To Be Drawbacks. Overall, The Story Presents An Original Take On The Post-apocalyptic Genre, Exploring Generational Differences And The Clash Between Old And New Ways Of Thinking Within A Clan-based Society.

Purely original storyline

An angle on dystopian survival unlike anything I have previously read. Strong original story line, and of course Kevin Pierce nailed it again!

A great futuristic story!

This is a well written story!
The futuristic side of a post apocalyptic genre was a fascinating read.
I found this book while searching narrator Kevin Pierce and thought I would give it a try knowing his track record of narrating great stories, and was not disappointed!
I will continue reading this series…

Slow Moving but interesting

The story was the survival of people long after an apocalyptic event. The characters seem both simple yet intelligent. They live in a world that has challenges that continually affect their numbers. I did not think the narrator was good for this book because he couldn't reflect emotions in his voice. I will purchase the next book in the series.

Give it a try

The start is a little slow but the character development makes it worth that. I really enjoyed the series and want the next book soon to alleviate the cliffhanger the fourth book left.

Great Original Story

Great story. I like the concept. Things are described well, but not so much that your imagination can’t form its own ideas. It’s got a little adventure, a little love, and a some good guy / bad guy scenarios. I truly enjoyed when the narrative changed to a wolf’s perspective.
I truly enjoyed this one.

Taking the Long Walk

This first story in J. Thorn and Glynn James's post-apocalyptic saga of a tribe torn between long followed traditions and a young chief's willingness to do things differently is very well written. The characters are interesting, the challenges the tribe faces are believable and the questions the story raises are thought-provoking.
I look forward to discovering the rest of tale.
