About this listen

How does a con man survive with no one around to fool but himself? Who does a knight battle when the demons in the dark begin to pale next to his own? And what, exactly, does a minotaur do when he finally gets a vacation day?

These are stories from the world of Ethereal Earth, a place where legends and myths hide among us in plain sight, and occasionally just need to get some laundry done. Here you’ll find scenes that didn’t have a place in the main series, with new events that fall between the first three books to expand the lore and give fresh insight into some of your favorite characters - all with the same snarky and sinister mix you know and love. And maybe a few secrets too, if that’s your kind of thing.

Short Changed is the first story collection in the Ethereal Earth series, an ongoing tale of adventure and excitement and intrigue, and a group of people who didn’t ask for any of it.

I love loved this but WTF Nextbook

my title says it all just want to know when the next book is man. it's awesome so far and when you started talking about the Side Stories and how it could go in all these different directions from the main story sounds really awesome. I guess you have another job and that could definitely hold things up. I just hope you get out another book soon keep them coming man you're very talented.

Must listen if you've listened to the series.

It was really interesting to learn how some events happened to cause events in the main story. Learning more about the characters own stories gives a deeper understanding of their motivations and personality as well as making them seem more real.

Great stories

Very enjoyable stories. I think they should be part of the books. They add depth and understanding to the characters.

Brilliant

James' story is worth the book alone. I always wanted more from that character and this collection did that. The Knights of Solomon could be a whole series by itself. This book fills in some of the gaps that may have left people wanting. If you are a fan of the series this is a must have. Truthfully, the last story could hook you into the series even if you haven't experienced it yet.

Great world building

This collection of short stories gives a lot of insight into other characters in the Ethereal Earth series, and serves as great world building too. If you have favorite side characters or just want to learn more about the power structure certain characters are part of, I highly recommend this book!

Excellent addition to an excellent series

Great book. While not part of the main series it helps add a richness and a depth to the characters and the world. Gives a glimpse at a side of the characters we haven't had a chance to see in the main series. Possibly introducing some new characters I hope!

Auditory Ethereal Omakase

Once again, preformed by the author with professional quality reading and acting, not something that gets written often.
Like an elegant omakase meal for Ethereal Earth, served in small quantities by a master. Except maybe without the elegance (after all it's Gabe, Heather, and cast) unless you include its descriptions of wraith dismemberment. Similar risk of food poisoning but less raw fish.

Great set of stories in the series!

This is a group of stories from The Ethereal Earth series, and inside there are stories that fall between Hero Forged and Fate Lashed, and stories that fall between Fate Lashed and Blight Marked. So, read those first, if possible!

Many of the stories follow Gabe and Heather, who are the main protagonists throughout the series, however there are a bunch of stories that follow the Knight, Leopold, and the minotaur, Dante. I really enjoyed seeing some things from the point of view of Leopold, as I've always thought that he's an interesting character.

Josh Erikson narrates this little book of short stories, just as he has narrated all of the Ethereal Earth series, and he's consistently done a great job with it! His narration has only gotten better and better in my opinion as the series has gone on.

So, all told, if you've enjoyed the Ethereal Earth series, you'll very likely enjoy Short Changed! You should definitely give it a listen!

This helped me remember why I like this series!

TLDNR--its worth it! its new material and all the characters you love and hate but may learn to respect, are in it and it adds alot to the series in my opinion.

I don't normally leave reviews but this author has not only gained me as a fan but has inspired me take a leap of faith in my own writings. I will admit that originally as soon as I saw the artwork of the books thumbnail and the name of the author I knew it was and Etherial Earth book so I just bought it without reading any details, so I was disappointed to think that the next book in the series was so short. Then I was happy to find out that it was more of a ".5" kind of book. Then I was disappointed again that it was not an actual next step in the series, but after listening to it I remembered how well he constructs the dynamics between his characters. Just their interactions alone make any of the books a worthwhile venture. Even tho all the stories aren't in the future from the last book, they are still new stories and they not only expand the story but give more details and context to the already phenomenal cast. **WARNING**This next sentence might be a slight spoiler so if you are worried about me mentioning something that happens in the book but not giving details about it, then you should stop reading right here.....**

I think the entire book was worth it even if it was just to hear the poem about the endless dark. It added so much depth to how the umbras, who are monsters bouncing back and forth from existing and not existing, still have a fairytale like poem about the boogeyman that the boogeymen are afraid of.
