About this listen

Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden is a very powerful wizard and a dedicated private eye. He is also a wise cracking trouble magnet. Fueled by a tempest of guilt, sleep deprivation, malnutrition, bad temper and frankly awful personal grooming. Harry is hurtling toward oblivion. According to Harry that is nobody's business but his own.

The Winter Queen of Faerie manipulates him into accepting a case to solve a murder and stop a war between the courts of Summer and Winter that could have literally earth shattering consequences. His own soul is up for grabs. Dresden must dig deep to discover that at time a willingness to accept a little help from your friends, be they a cub pack of werewolves, old loves in sheep's clothing, or a battalion of pizza loving dewdrop fairies, is a very good thing.

Great book. Annoying narration.

Entertaining storyline. Narration can be hard to bear (You can hear the saliva rolling in the narrators mouth throughout the entire book....). Very distracting and annoying.

Great books... but ease up on the DRM

A very entertaining fantasy which is well narrated by mr Marsters. However only the first four books are available for non-US downloads, apparently due to DRM-issues. Very frustrating!

Dresden is a great "real" character

Dresden is a wonderful character that the author peels like an onion. Dresden takes on all his trials and tribulations as a modern day wizard with realism and a dry, witty sense of humor. Jim Butcher allows us to feel everything that happens to Dresden along with how he mentally deals with his situations, bringing up issues of rage, love, power and helplessness in a wonderful mix that keeps me coming back to this series. Dresden feels like an old friend, good job Jim Butcher!

I. LOVE. THIS. SERIES.

I wont lie, I downloaded all the books from a friend before now... I am now buying all of the books on Audible because I love them all so much that I feel compelled to support the author and the team involved.

My only issue with the whole series, which ONLY occurs in the first 3 books is James' mispronunciation of several words that were not corrected in the final release.

He pronounces "Sidhe" as "Sith" (like from Star Wars)

When it should be pronounced: "She"

He pronounces "Sigils and Runes" as "Sig-ills and Ruins"

I get it. Ancient Gaelic is hard. But still... The Producers should have caught it. Later in the series, everything is correctly pronounced... I mean... you guys did a re-recording of "Ghost Story" so fans could have James all the way through, but you didn't have him go back and re-record a few lines for the earlier works?

In the end, it doesn't matter because I'll still listen to all of them a million more times anyway. It just bugs me when he says "Lenonsith"... :-P

Dresden Grows up

This chapter of Dresden's life finds him realizing that even an all powerful wizard needs help from his friends. It is a refreshing change for the character.

Not his best.

The story was so-so, but James Marsters can do a whole lot with a marginally adequate story.
