About this listen
Experience the final chapter of Ahren's epic, PLATIN-awarded adventure.
Ahren's enormous undertaking to unite the thirteen Paladins has, following years of dangerous journeying, come to a successful conclusion. Now there is only one task left for him to complete. He must lead the Champions of the gods, his other friends, and the free peoples of Jorath in an assault on the Obsidian Fortress. Yet the Adversary is intent on foiling his archenemies' plan before they reach his hordes lurking behind the compound walls. The Dark god's scheme is to spring the trap that was set centuries earlier in preparation for just such an event . . .

Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

I never believed in the whole “light at the end of the tunnel” folly where people, after having a near-death experience, would startle awake in a cold sweat exclaiming, “I saw the light!” But there I was, in this so-called “tunnel” facing a glaring light, when the last thing I remembered was sleeping in my room - the royal bed-chamber, as others called it. Had I died? If so, how? King Grey once benefited from unrivaled strength, wealth, and prestige in a world governed by martial ability but now finds himself reborn in a society dominated by magic.

The story itself!
The story as a whole, from book one on, was excellent! Great writing, the narrator was awesome. There was only one thing that really annoyed me, and this is just because I'm a stickler for it, was the repeating of phrases, such as joie de vivre. Other than that, I absolutely loved the whole series.

Overall enjoyed
Reminded me of a Tolkien series but really enjoyed this Fantasy adventure. The biggest challenge was getting through book 11 due to a change in the narrator but I knew Gildart Jackson was back for 12 & 13 so I just muddled through. I’ve recommended this series to others.

As the last in the series it is sad but! This is the greatest in the series even if it’s also the end. The whole thing has came together with heartfelt emotions and greatly executed details. Great series and as it is great to see the ending come together it is a saddening to see it end!!!

Best Adventure of All Time! Masterful!
Weitze is a masterful storyteller and world-builder that has you clinging to the story and surprised at every corner until the very end! I’m still blown away that the series was a generous 13 book adventure with each it’s own delights as it develops each incredibly complex character and fascinating region of the worlds he’s created. This is a serious I treasure as much as Tolkien and, in fact, found it richer and deeper than even that epic tale.
The Paladins and their friends will forever live in my imagination as if they were real personalities and old friends - especially with the phenomenal narration of the ingenious and talented Gildart Jackson who perfectly crafted every single character with each word spoken. (Mr. Jackson please go back and narrated the 11 book for us ! So much was lost in the telling without you :)
Bravo!!! Thank you Mr. Weitze and Mr. Jackson! Encore!
