About this listen

In just seven days, the world will crumble. The System's Descent will usher in a new era of chaos: wild animals mutating, monstrous creatures emerging, and the cessation of modern technology. Humanity will be left defenseless.

Drew Wright knows none of this. At least not until he is rudely ripped from his bed and thrust into a white room to undergo a taser-happy ‘Tutorial’. Turns out, he is one of a thousand randomly selected people to be forewarned of the approaching apocalypse. Now, he faces the delightful task of convincing his wife and mother of the devastation hurtling towards them.

As the System’s Descent draws near, Drew scrambles to prep supplies, fortify his home, and drag his elderly, TV-addicted mother away from her ‘shows’ long enough to listen to him. With monsters knocking at the door, how far is Drew willing to go to save those closest to him?

The dead rise to combat the encroaching darkness as Drew Wright taps into the only power that might save his loved ones—becoming Earth’s first Necromancer.

Great story

I really enjoyed this book, its fun. I'm a bit biased because I love necromancers. Definitely gunna pick up the next one.

Though I definitely feel like the story has a few loose ends but Im sure they'll get wrapped up in the next book.

I kinda wish the MC enjoyed combat more but its probably more realistic that he doesn't.

I don't quite get why some guns work and some don't as most guns all work on the same principles so a lever action and a AR aren't really all that different when it comes to striking a bullet. They are definitely on different levels but the basic function is the same when it comes to hitting a striker to fire a bullet. I can look past that though because its a fun story. Thats really my only gripe with the book.

Looking forward to book 2

easy to follow with a unique protagonists and realistic decision making without the main character making huge leaps of logic.

awesome older MC

This was a great first book and I really love that the MC is older and so family oriented. He is not full murder hobo and I feel like it really adds to the story. Not only is the MC awesome but the author does a great job making all the side characters important and fleshed out. needless to say I'm excited for the next one!

Give the is a chance

I got this on a whim, and I am not disappointed at all. I had no expectations at all but I found myself loving all the characters. I love the MC being a necro. I love how there are elements of to building and also LitRPG. I greatly enjoy how it’s not death by stat screens either.

I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

This had me listening to it almost straight through it was so good and has comedy at amazing moments too. “Rearrange my guts witch boy” had me literally spitting my drink out.

Awesome!

Really loved the story, a Family man that makes his family and friends his priority and it's not afraid of doing the necessary to do so, he makes some pretty good decisions early on that snowball into him becoming powerful and the story does give some primal hunter vibe but it'it's own story and world building also no annoying side characters or companions, im so looking forward to the next one!

Good story with some minor issues

So let me start by saying this is a good story, but it could have been great. This story provided an interesting introduction to the world and gave us some upfront information on what to expect. Interesting class/skill system and great story development.

First problem, if you are expecting the story to have a ton of necromancer stuff, it doesn’t. For it to have necromancer in the title you would expect quite a bit, but the necromancy is almost an afterthought.

Second, the MC is so all over the place with decisions and what he knows and forgets it’s kinda jarring at points. Why take a skill explicitly for one of the things it offers and then never use it or act like you regret taking it. Also getting upset that you didn’t know something when it was explained literally 1-2 chapters back to you fully? Some of the decisions get rationalized and then immediately you have to suspend way too much belief because of new actions. And I’m sure people will argue that the MC is adapting to situations but this isn’t that.

I really did like this story, it had so much potential to be great and I would highly recommend it as even with my issues I still enjoyed it. But I also feel like this had so much more potential.

slow burn greatness

the story kicks off kind of slow at first but quickly picks up pace once the system arrives. I can't wait for the next one to get here.

oh, I need book 2 ASAP

very good take on the normally "other world" fantasy combined with apocalyptic earth with some LitRPG mixed in, but not to heavy on notifications. This book masterfully rides some fine lines. Loved it! Hades needs to make Amber his champion.

A good first entry!

I enjoyed the references and the general flow of the story. Definitely a solid first entry and mild stat usage. Narration was well done also. I expected a bit darker of a story with the cover but wasn’t very dark overall.
