About this listen

In just seven days, the world will crumble. The System's Descent will usher in a new era of chaos: wild animals mutating, monstrous creatures emerging, and the cessation of modern technology. Humanity will be left defenseless.

Drew Wright knows none of this. At least not until he is rudely ripped from his bed and thrust into a white room to undergo a taser-happy ‘Tutorial’. Turns out, he is one of a thousand randomly selected people to be forewarned of the approaching apocalypse. Now, he faces the delightful task of convincing his wife and mother of the devastation hurtling towards them.

As the System’s Descent draws near, Drew scrambles to prep supplies, fortify his home, and drag his elderly, TV-addicted mother away from her ‘shows’ long enough to listen to him. With monsters knocking at the door, how far is Drew willing to go to save those closest to him?

The dead rise to combat the encroaching darkness as Drew Wright taps into the only power that might save his loved ones—becoming Earth’s first Necromancer.

Looking forward to book 2

easy to follow with a unique protagonists and realistic decision making without the main character making huge leaps of logic.

Great story

I really enjoyed this book, its fun. I'm a bit biased because I love necromancers. Definitely gunna pick up the next one.

Though I definitely feel like the story has a few loose ends but Im sure they'll get wrapped up in the next book.

I kinda wish the MC enjoyed combat more but its probably more realistic that he doesn't.

I don't quite get why some guns work and some don't as most guns all work on the same principles so a lever action and a AR aren't really all that different when it comes to striking a bullet. They are definitely on different levels but the basic function is the same when it comes to hitting a striker to fire a bullet. I can look past that though because its a fun story. Thats really my only gripe with the book.

awesome older MC

This was a great first book and I really love that the MC is older and so family oriented. He is not full murder hobo and I feel like it really adds to the story. Not only is the MC awesome but the author does a great job making all the side characters important and fleshed out. needless to say I'm excited for the next one!

Give the is a chance

I got this on a whim, and I am not disappointed at all. I had no expectations at all but I found myself loving all the characters. I love the MC being a necro. I love how there are elements of to building and also LitRPG. I greatly enjoy how it’s not death by stat screens either.

I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Well Done!

Not what I expected but it is a killer approach to a dark path of magic, that shows you don’t have to be a murder happy psychopath to get the job done.
Narration and cover art are well done! The story is unique in a genre that is saturated. I am looking forward to seeing where the story goes!

really enjoyable system novel

ive listened to literally thousands of books and I must say it just feels a bit cooler listening to a book in my favorite genre where the location is based on where I grew up. it brings it to life in a whole new way.
yes I have a little bias because of that attachment but I will say it's one of the better system novels I've read in a while and I buy pretty much all of them I come across.
the mc is relatable and funny. he isn't the smartest person around but he isn't a slouch either. his decisions make sense and he isn't a push over.
it's worth the credit for any system fans

Overall good book

Let's start off with the voice. Actors did an excellent job. The book itself was well written.
There was just something missing to me. I don't know what it was. I can't put my finger on it.
It was not one of the books that you can't put down. It was a book that I could stop and come back to with no problem. It's a good listen. If someone likes this type of book, it's just not something, I would call great
It does have funny times sad times and all in between. I think it's worth giving a listen to hope this helps you

Great listen, highly recommend

If you aren't familiar with the narrator he has the classic "move phone" voice which is very smooth and easy to listen to once you get used to him. The story itself reminds me of a slightly less grim version of Jez's Age of Stone series but with more easter eggs for genre fans and doesn't always take itself quite so seriously. Our protag is strong but not insanely overpowered, you get the feeling that death is always near but things aren't as bad as they seem. Loved the callbacks and I am really looking forward to book 2, interested to see which way he takes the series.

First Necromancer on Earth!

Excellent story and narration! Good character development. Realistic look at what would happen if an event gave everyone on earth fantasy type classes and monsters started appearing. Very well done. Interesting take on the Necromancer class. Looking forward to the next book!
