About this listen

Greetings, friend! Rest here for a while and listen—I have a quest for you.

How would you like to begin an apprenticeship in the mystical craft of artificery? You'll learn things that most people can only dream of. You'll make swords with self-sharpening blades, bows that fire by themselves, and clocks that can read the future.

Even better, you'll get to live in the sunlit village of Sunhampton, a sleepy little crafter's village of cobbled streets, cozy taverns, and pleasant bakeries.

If this sounds like just the life for you, then grab a beer and a sweet roll, and follow Lewis as he begins his new life as an apprentice.

Lewis comes from a family who don't regard him much, so he sets out on his own into the world, intent on securing an apprenticeship in an interesting profession. What he doesn't expect is to find himself studying one of the most mystical arts in the land.

It'll be hard work. Perhaps even dangerous work. But with an old artificery master to teach him, and the friends that he makes to help him, he's sure he'll get there.

Why not get yourself over to the cozy town of Sunhampton and join him on his quest?

Very simple and peaceful slice of life

Great narrator, simple slice of life with light litrpg elements. I’d love it a little longer per book, but I really enjoy this story, keep it going!

Warm and Comfy

This was a genuine delight to listen to. No world spanning drama or conflict that defines an era, but rather a solid story of a boy learning a trade, about life, and making friends along the way. If you want something a bit more down to earth but still has that fun fantasy and magic flare, you won't go wrong here. I definitely see myself listening to this again in the future, which is about as high of praise as I can give anything.

Nothing really happens

This is a good performance of a story that in which not much happens. There was no great conflict to resolve

Solid Slice of Life

Slice of life portion was good, the system was meh and side characters slowly became less of what they once were. The side character's romance was not good, they seemed to have no compatability and was just kinda shoehorned into it. Overall an enjoyable listen though, I'll likely read the next.

Good

I knew going into this book, that it wouldn’t be some action packed adventure fantasy. I picked up this book for the express purpose to get away from the more adventurous and combat oriented books. Ultimately, though, I found that this type of book isn’t for me. Otherwise, it was a pretty decent book. A neat system, nice characters, and a decent plot.

My only complaint/advice is that if you introduce a same age character who is a girl (potential romantic interest) and that they are in constant companionship throughout the book, please make it clear; earlier in the book; that they are not a romantic interest. I was a bit bummed when all of a sudden, in the last few chapters of the book she’s seen holding hands with another guy. The interaction was hinted at but was a bit left field when no opinion on the matter, neither personal introspection by the MC nor open clarity of their companionship, was made.

the optimism

the laundry listing of accievments became tedious at the end. But the positive nature of the narrative was very refreshing.

A Simple Story

I can't speak for the rest of the series yet, but so far this story has proven exceptionally simple in the best ways. It doesn't add in unnecessary stakes, plots, schemes, it doesn't make anyone overpowered or give them the ability to change the world. It is genuinely just about a guy trying to make his way as a crafter.
