About this listen

“Claire Douglas is a mistress at weaving the reader into a web of domestic deceit.”—Jane Corry, author of The Dead Ex

A journalist’s life is threatened when she investigates the truth about a mysterious car crash that happened twenty years earlier in this gripping thriller from the internationally bestselling author of The Couple at Number 9 and Just Like the Other Girls.

A car accident.

Three missing girls.

A twenty-year mystery.

A woman on the verge of discovering the truth . . .

In a rural Wilshire town lies the Devil’s Corridor—a haunted road which has witnessed eerie happenings, from unexplained deaths to the sounds of a child crying in the night.

In this bucolic stretch of Southwest England famous for its otherworldly sites, nothing is more puzzling than the Olivia Rutherford case. Four girls were driving home. After their car crashed only one—Olivia—was found.

What happened to the girls who disappeared? On the twentieth anniversary of the tragedy, journalist Jenna Halliday has arrived in Wiltshire to cover the case. The locals aren’t happy with this outsider determined to dig into the past. Least of all Olivia.

Soon, Jenna starts receiving menacing notes. The locals have made it clear she’s not welcome. But someone is going to make her leave one way or another. Jenna’s been warned: she must get out of this town before she suffers a dark fate . . . and becomes another mystery attached to this place.

I found it engaging

Not sure why this hasn’t gotten more good reviews. This is exactly the sort of audible book I enjoy listening to, and this one did not disappoint.
Engaging and well written. And I really love anything read by Joanna Froggatt!! I hope she does more audible books.

Bloody brilliant! Love my British books…

… and over and over, this proves why. These three accomplished women are favorites of mine, author Claire Douglas, and narrators Clare Corbett and Joanne Froggatt. The intricate plot includes, well, The Girls Who Disappeared, 20 years ago. Douglas kept me listening into the late-night hours. The narrative skills of Corbett and Frogatt go above and beyond with their presentation of this years-old mystery with their precise talents. Such deliciously wicked subplots throughout! Jaw-dropping surprises zigzagging from all directions. Lies! Secrets! Was there a figure standing in the road that fateful night? {{{{Listen intently, no multitasking here. I learned my lesson}}}} I was audicted from the very beginning. Devious and mystifying, this is worth a treasured credit. I grabbed this one immediately during an Audible 2-for-1 sale. Never a dull moment or slowing down and dragging. With a curtsey and a genuine thank you, I will be searching for more by this gifted trio. May we have more, please? Highly recommended. “Epic. I say! EPIC! EPIC! EPIC!” Spectacular entertainment at its best with 🍒🍒🍒 on top.

Character details and thrilling gripping twists

I loved how the author worked through all of the different twists and turns throughout the back and then on top of that gave each character a unique depth and detail without being monotonous! it was an incredible book with outcomes. I don't think anyone would expect! So far my top read of 2024!
