About this listen

“Claire Douglas is a mistress at weaving the reader into a web of domestic deceit.”—Jane Corry, author of The Dead Ex

A journalist’s life is threatened when she investigates the truth about a mysterious car crash that happened twenty years earlier in this gripping thriller from the internationally bestselling author of The Couple at Number 9 and Just Like the Other Girls.

A car accident.

Three missing girls.

A twenty-year mystery.

A woman on the verge of discovering the truth . . .

In a rural Wilshire town lies the Devil’s Corridor—a haunted road which has witnessed eerie happenings, from unexplained deaths to the sounds of a child crying in the night.

In this bucolic stretch of Southwest England famous for its otherworldly sites, nothing is more puzzling than the Olivia Rutherford case. Four girls were driving home. After their car crashed only one—Olivia—was found.

What happened to the girls who disappeared? On the twentieth anniversary of the tragedy, journalist Jenna Halliday has arrived in Wiltshire to cover the case. The locals aren’t happy with this outsider determined to dig into the past. Least of all Olivia.

Soon, Jenna starts receiving menacing notes. The locals have made it clear she’s not welcome. But someone is going to make her leave one way or another. Jenna’s been warned: she must get out of this town before she suffers a dark fate . . . and becomes another mystery attached to this place.

Great read… kept you guessing through the end. Lots of twists and turns. Would recommend.

Good read

Liked this book and the way the characters developed and story wound together. Good narrator and pace

Good twist

I liked this story and how the subplots slide seamlessly into the main arc. Character development was good for Jenna and Olivia but there needed to be more for the secondary characters to establish a connection. Imo I don’t think JP was depicted well. I would have been incensed with all of it. At least validate what was done then look at what/how each of the others contributed. I liked Jenna she is feisty, loyal, and cares about the truth. She is also flawed and feels her emotions and especially loves her son. I enjoyed listening to this one.

Narration by both narrators was really good providing unique voices, gender and accents.

Great ending

Not sure why this hasn’t gotten more good reviews. This is exactly the sort of audible book I enjoy listening to, and this one did not disappoint.
Engaging and well written. And I really love anything read by Joanna Froggatt!! I hope she does more audible books.

I found it engaging

Lots of twists and turns and the story is complete. Unfortunately, we have heard it before. That’s not a bad thing I just knew what was coming. Narrator is good and really captures the characters but she has a very strong accent.

Just what I expected

the audio was great I really liked the narration.

the story started out great just enough mystery to make you wonder whether the culprit was supernatural or just plain natural. There were some slow spots and the tumeline got a little skewed but over all the pacing was pretty good. I also liked the mystery of who the second group of characters were and how they tied into the story. Curiosity kept me going.

stop now to avoid spoilers.

there were a couple of loose ends I don't think got addressed by the end. First its never made clear what actually caused the accident. next Jean Paul's brother is introduced and interacted with twice then never mentioned again. if he was so desperate to find his brother that he was chasing leads all over the world wouldn't he have been interested to find out Olivia was his neice? but they never get introduced to each other?

Great narrator story had loose ends

I thought this story was very hard to follow, and although the character development was ok, it wasn't what I've come to expect from this author.
It won't stop me from reading everything else she writes, it just wasn't my favorite

I love this author... but didn't love this book

It was hard for me to concentrate on this book since there were 2 narrators used for no reason. They didn’t use one for certain characters and the other for others; it was a free for all! The worst part was I hated the nasal over enunciation of the one narrator. Why don’t authors pick narrators that have pleasant voices? Is it really that hard? A poor narrator can ruin an audiobook. I need to figure out which of the 2 narrators annoyed me and put them on my “list” of “Don’t purchase!” Ps- it is Claire Corbett

Why 2 narrators?
