About this listen

The Hungry Dragon Cookie Company - it sounds crazy, but it might just be Timmy’s ticket to financial security and a fully renovated castle.

To earn a pardon and avoid prison or execution, Timmy, Grand Necromancer and Lord of Black Tower Castle, has been completing missions for the Council with the help of an elite team of truly heroic individuals.

There’s Katie, his apprentice. She’s brilliant, cunning, and maniacally devious. She’s also 10 years old, extremely adorable, and loves billowy robes and the color pink.

There’s Avraniel, the pyromaniac elf who is responsible for more property damage than anyone in Everton’s history (including dragons, natural disasters, and demon gods).

There’s Gerald, the hyperventilating bureaucrat who is at the top of every monster’s menu.

There’s Old Man, a retired legendary swordsman whose hobbies include bonsai trees, fishing, and the occasional duel to the death.

There’s Amanda, ancient vampire and sophisticate who knows all about the Council’s founding because she was there when it happened.

And then there’s Spot. He’s cute, cuddly, and friendly. He loves tug-of-war and fetch. He’s also a fire-breathing dragon who can devour an entire cow in about thirty seconds.

The Hungry Dragon Cookie Company is a collection of 14 short stories that take place before, during, and after the first three parts of The Unconventional Heroes Series. Each story hopes to answer important questions like: How does a company involving cookies and dragons even work? How did a trans-dimensional, protoplasmic horror and a Grand Necromancer become friends, and how did that horror develop an addiction to cake? How does an ancient vampire acquire the comely, young virgins she needs to maintain proper vampiric health without looking like a total weirdo?

Answers to all of these questions and more will be revealed. With unconventional heroes like Timmy and the gang around, life is never boring.

This book of mini stories was like catching episodes of a familiar show. More of comfort and connecting to each character’s background. Enjoyable.

I could have seen giving this a lower rating, but the beach episode by itself earns 5 stars. Are these stories critical to the development of the characters of this series? Not really. But they each tell us something about the people, and it's okay sometimes to just enjoy existing in a universe. It's all too rare for anyone to just enjoy a day at the beach, no strings attatched.

I wish more books had installments like this

This whole series never ceases to amaze me in creativity, and unique story telling, I really love the narrator which is how I found the book. He always makes them worth while to listen to, even down to his kids books he narrates. Loving every book in the series so far and can’t wait to listen to guns rest.

Superb, creative and always unexpected

I can kind of understand where some of the more negative reviews are coming from, this book circumvents the events going on in the main series with several peeks into the world and other gap filling adventures of the characters. You won't necessarily have to read/listen to this one in order understand what is going on in the next book but there are few little easter egg mentions throughout the series of events that take place in these 0.5 books between the main storyline. You get a little more insight into the mindset and events taking place which is kind of fun and shows the amount of effort gone into flushing out such an amazing world and story.

All in all I thoroughly enjoyed this as much as any of the main series of books but I am just a sucker for this series as it is just so much fun and feels so well thoughtout.

I just adore Fred Berman and his character voices. He’s right at the top with Susan Bennett who narrated Blood Sucking Fiends by Christopher Moore. I have a mad crush on Timmy! And it makes me laugh out loud when Gerald screams in terror! So good.

The series is just fun. It’s an easy listen. Takes you away from everyday and transports you to a land of magic.

Fred Berman Rocks!
