Publisher's summary

Being a mage isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Especially when you’ve witnessed the end of the world and the demise of all you’ve ever loved.

As a particle physicist, William Jenkins is as unsuited to survival on an alien world as any normal 30-something post-doc could be. Thankfully, he’s not alone. With an AI, magic, scientific curiosity, and, most improbably, a deity on his side, Will must come to terms with his new reality before otherworldly terrors forever extinguish the light of hope on this new world.

Meanwhile, as the forces of darkness amass to invade her home, Effni Naridia, Qaseri Ranger, and Guardian of her peoples, must face her own demons. By undertaking a trial, Effni could determine not only the fate of her city but unravel a mystery aeons in the making.

The Last Physicist features elements of progression fantasy and Gamelit and is perfect for those who enjoy stories by Andrew Rowe, Will Wight, and Andy Weir.

Warning. This novel contains questionable quantum mechanics, general relativity, and magic.

Note: This book also features profanity, vivid depictions of violence, pain, and gore, along with depictions of mental health issues (including PTSD, generalized anxiety, and depression) some listeners may find distressing.

Incredibly Refreshing

Narrator is excellent. By defualt I listen to all audiobooks atleast at 1.25x speed.

I have possibly read far too many stories within the isekai genre. To the point that I am desperate to find more worth reading.

This book gave me that giddy feeling again that I've been chasing reading the genre. I skipped sleeping in favor of finishing it in one sitting.

If I had any nitpicks it'd be to have less moments of recalling past information that's already been mentioned. It's not nearly as bad as all the mediocre series I've read, but still present. I guess if you are deathly allergic to that then stay away?

Otherwise, get the boooook
get it get it :D

Amazing book

First, let me say that the voice acting was astounding! The writer addresses all of the holes and fallacies of how magic would actually affect a world where physics still worked without breaking laws and it made the book so much more fascinating. He addressed a story of a lost being looking for redemption and facing his flaws. He built in a world that could have been a cookie-cutter fantasy knockoff and made it a living unique world with real flesh and blood beneath stereotypes we usually see. He brought us a hard look at motivations judgments and stereotypes while still giving us an action-packed sci-fi and fantasy romp. WELL DONE!

Fun story with a diverse male MC

This was a fun listen for all of you isekai fans.
It got heavy into the magic system, maybe too heave for some. I highly suggest picking it up, either way.

A rough cut gem is still a gem.

Pretty good first entry to a series, had some strange parts, but nothing too bad.

A bit dry at first, but I grew to love it

The narrator voice was originally too soothing to be listening to at the time I usually end up listening to audiobooks, so I had to change that around.

However once I did so, I grew engaged in the story, and will wait with anticipation for the 2nd book
