About this listen

It sounds insane, but asking a young dragon to watch over a flock of magical sheep might just be Timmy’s ticket to financial freedom.

To earn his pardon and help Everton win the war against the Eternal Empire, Timmy - Grand Necromancer extraordinaire - has his work cut out for him.

Thankfully, he’s not alone. He has an elite team of questionable characters to help him turn the tide: There’s his pint-sized apprentice who dreams of becoming the Supreme Necromancer. It’s a pity she’s more adorable than menacing. There’s the pyromaniacal elf who isn’t into saving the innocent so much as she’s into smiting (and robbing) the wicked. There’s the ancient vampire whose penchant for getting stabbed has led to a drastic reduction in her wardrobe. There’s the legendary swordsman who’s so legendary that he might actually die of old age instead of meeting his end in battle. There’s the timid bureaucrat whose knack for almost getting eaten is matched only by his knack for paperwork. There’s the dwarf who wants to build a golem so huge it can make a dragon cry uncle. And then there’s the young dragon whose hunger knows no bounds.

Nobody is safe. Not pineapples. Not bandits. Not even giant, mutant cows. Timmy and the gang aren’t the heroes anyone expected, but they’ll get the job done. Somehow. With plenty of property damage.

The Sheep Dragon is a collection of 14 short stories set before, during, and after the first four parts of The Unconventional Heroes series. Each story addresses questions of world-shaking importance like: Is it possible for a young dragon to watch over a flock of sheep without those sheep ending up in his stomach? What do necromancers actually do at necromancer conventions? And what is the best way to deal with a surprise demonic invasion?

Another amazing collection of stories

Estrella does it again. Loved every minute of this book. The stories do so much to flesh out all of the characters he created. I can’t wait for the next true installment of the series. So much still to come

a light and funny listen, very creative world

a bunch of shorter stories about the heroes from the previous books.
gives more depth to their world and the heroes.
if you like the books so far this is more of the same.

Excellent

At first, I did not warm up to the idea of ninja rats, now I love every story that they’re mentioned end. Every one of the stories in this book was awesome! Thank you.

Every aspect was grand..

I’ve spent over 100 hours listening to this series. The narrator was stellar, the voices they curated for these beloved characters are etched onto my psyche. The flow of stories past and present was done well. Character development through the eyes of each character for other characters added a richness to them that can not be done in third person… I have listened through to the end of The Sheep Dragon and the way it ended, well it left me satisfied. Would I love to hear more stories from this wiley bunch of unconventional heros?? Yes I would! However, I have come to know them and feel certain that Katie will grow into a lovely woman with poise, grace, and menace. That Spot will become a Dragon Lord and bring peace wherever he roams. The Gerald will be a happy librarian with unknowable tributes to him of Frying Pan statues all over Everton. I have laughed out loud while driving to work and been brought to tears as well by the stories told in this series. I would recommend it to anyone on any given day.

More please

I liken it to the later books of Pratchett, and even felt the same Melancholy I felt during the Shepherd’s Crown. I might have to restart the series and have it as a continuous loop. I fear a Unconventional Hole is about to fill my Audible collection.

These backstories are amazing!

I have the full set in Audible. I have listened to them multiple times. They make me feel like part of the family. Of course I still have questions about some of the characters and what happened to them long ago. Why did a Sword Saint loved by all have to leave his family and friends? We learn how be became the Sword Saint, but not why he had to leave.

Fred Berman is amazing at bringing these characters to life. I can "hear" the eyerolls, and feel the ice chills from the frost dragon.

I've been waiting many months for the next book to come out, but at least I now know that it is in the works. I can't wait for Two Necromancers, a Fortress and aTitan to come along. Please Hurry!
