Story
A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. He is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock. Forty years earlier, a man committed suicide in a stolen car at this farm at the end of the road. Like a fuse on a firework, his death lit a touchpaper and resonated in unimaginable ways. The darkness was unleashed, something scary and thoroughly incomprehensible to a little boy. And Lettie - magical, comforting, wise beyond her years - promised to protect him, no matter what.

Two teenagers, a Greek Cypriot and a Turkish Cypriot, meet at a taverna on the island they both call home. In the taverna, hidden beneath garlands of garlic, chili peppers and creeping honeysuckle, Kostas and Defne grow in their forbidden love for each other. A fig tree stretches through a cavity in the roof, and this tree bears witness to their hushed, happy meetings and eventually, to their silent, surreptitious departures. The tree is there when war breaks out, when the capital is reduced to ashes and rubble, and when the teenagers vanish.

Story
Seductresses and she-monsters, nymphs and demi-goddesses, populate the famous myths of Ovid's Metamorphoses. But what happens when the story of the chase comes in the voice of the woman fleeing her rape? When the beloved coolly returns the seducer's gaze? When tales of monstrous transfiguration are sung by those transformed? In voices both mythic and modern, Wake, Siren revisits each account of love, loss, rape, revenge, and change. It lays bare the violence that undergirds and lurks in the heart of Ovid’s narratives.

As a child, Merrow Shawe believes she is born of the sea: strong, joyous, and wild. Her beloved home is Horseshoe Cliff, a small farm on the coast of Northern California where she spends her days exploring fog-cloaked bluffs, swimming in the cove, and basking in the light of golden sunsets as her father entertains her with fantastical stories. It is an enchanting childhood, but it is not without hardship - the mystery of Merrow’s mother’s death haunts her, as does the increasingly senseless cruelty of her older brother, Bear. Then Amir arrives in Merrow’s life....

Interesting twist
An interesting twist at the end, but I found myself fast-forwarding quite a bit. This could have been several hours shorter. While the story was OK, I thought the narrator was great! I haven’t found a female narrator I love as much as I did Katherine Kellgren, but Fiona Hardingham is getting there!

It was an OK story too bad the woman didn’t get what she was due
Made me a little crazy when the narrator kept yelling off and on and then it would get really quiet. I almost didn’t listen to the whole thing because of the narrator.

Deliciously wicked
Everything you wish you could do and say to the woman who stole your husband. Deliciously wicked with a perfect ending. Ms. Hardingham was a great narrator. Her tone and inflections made the story easy to become engrossed in. Definitely adding this author to my must read list.

Good story!
I'm really torn about the main character. Don't mess with a scorned woman, that's for sure.
