Publisher's summary

To Angus, things couldn't be more perfect. Sure, he still has to deal with an aging body in the outside world that won't allow him to do much.... But he's found solace in Alterwelt, a virtual world where he can craft to his heart's content and indulge in his life's true passion. Spending his time between fulfilling orders and expanding his ever-growing smithing guild, Hephaestus is living the dream, so to speak.

But maybe, just maybe, things were a little too perfect.

As he'll quickly learn, there's a growing movement gaining traction in the real world; Moralizers who denounce all the violence and depravity that pervade virtual worlds. Their demands are simple: They want the "games" neutered; they want Alterwelt and other Imperium spaces strictly regulated, which could threaten the world Angus has come to call his home.

Behind the movement stands one familiar foe: Lord Liberath, the same individual Hephaestus had managed to oust when the blacksmith had been accused of item hacking.

oh come on

If one guy ruins a multi billion dollar operation, he would not live through the day. This story is strangely idealistic. A billionaire without a team of lawyers? Bringing attention to copyright infringement without pushing a lawsuit... wow...

Honest review? I guess.

The first book was very enjoyable I'll be perfectly honest I probably read it again just because I enjoyed it. The second book not so much this did not hit well with me at all.

I think that they tried to do too much at once. I mean you just kind of hit the nuclear launch button instead of building up to it.

of course my opinion isn't my own.

despite the fact that it's called smithing 2 I think there was only two chapters actual smithing. the rest of it reaffirms the idea that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

however if someone has plans on making a futuristic gaming system, with artificial intelligence in the NPCs and the like please do not give a psychopath the developer key. psychological evaluations are important!

I understand it's a fantasy book but there's a lot of it that could have been thought out better especially the character of "wrongway"

2?

Hmm.

I enjoyed the story, but it was not what I thought I was getting.
I was wanting crafting. There wasn’t much of it in this book.

It was not bad but just not what I was marketed.

Story good
Performance good
Overall good with complaint

Lackluster Story Development

While some of the scenarios are understandable, there are too many instances of, “that’s it! You are giving up way to quick.” Especially when the MC was set up as a stubborn old man. He gave up way too easy way too many times.
I was also disappointed by the number of “connections” that popped up without explanation or were rammed through in a childlike manner. Simplifying it to the point it felt almost insulting.

Finally, while Henry Kramer had distinct main characters. It was hard to know what was narration and a non MC character talking. And he wasn’t really able to draw me into the story as well as I am used to. Though it may be bad direction or something else that was out of his control.

Irritating narration.

The narration has an irritating rhythm with excessive pauses between sentences. I gave up listening after a little more than an hour. What I heard of the story didn't seem to be as interesting as the first book.
