February, 2043:

Jack and the crew of the Crimson Alliance have finally made it back from the Realm of Order, but the threat to Eldgard is deadlier than ever.

Vogthar incursions are increasing, dungeons falling in droves, towns and cities ravaged by Darklings - Players and NPCs who have willingly sided with the Dark Overmind Thanatos. But thanks to a priceless artifact Jack found after defeating the Lich Priest, there might be a glimmer of hope on the horizon. Jack and company have unearthed a Doom-Forged relic, one part of an ancient weapon capable of killing even a god. But to assemble the legendary god-killer, they’ll need to find the other relics and locate the fabled Doom Forge of the Dwarven godling Khalkeús, all while unraveling a mystery five hundred years in the making.

I appreciate the sentiment.

It isn't often that an author will come around and start to finish up a series that they started. and for that I do appreciate the sentiment.

Although, I do feel that the story core of the LIT RPG slipped away from the both the author and the listeners.

there was no more enthusiastic "gamer" progression with the stats. almost no fun humor cutter remarks. Amara had maybe 3 lines in the entire book but was there for a good portion.

Listening to the story itself it felt like the author was forced to write this book out as a chore. and similarly. it felt like a chore to listen to this book.

Vary Pagan

these latest two books in the Viridian Gate Online main series are a bit longer, lol. Anyway, I had to speed it up a little to get it done before I started work so I could post here without any problem, lol.
So what do I think of doom forge? Honestly, still more that only exists in spoiler territory, but I think most important is how fascinated I am with the expansion of the overmind plot.
This is the first time we’re hearing about aspects, but like avatars and relics, this too is a story element that’s both common in fantasy and based in real mythology. Paganism has the concepts of aspects be pretty important, especialy Neopaganism and Hinduism. These are interesting sources, I’m here for it.
The Norse aspects were cool as well, like Yggdrasil (which actualt comes from words meaning the horse of the hanged, gallows) and many Norse gods. As above so bellow is a pagan adage about the gods and mankind, not sure if it’s very Norse tho.

Good

MC can now REALLY get stuff done & becomes a bad ASZ. The world is ending & some make it into this brand new fantasy LitRPG world, so everyone is scrambling to get a BIG piece. Story faster paced with: good amount of action & magic, some tech or humor & little romance. RL is minimal. Performance is pretty good, with many different voices & good inflections..

Top tier LitRPG with excellent characters

J A Hunter is an excellent writer. His books have something extra. A look into the human soul. Something not all LitRPG books have.

The IRL drama of VGO doesn’t match The Way Of The Shaman, The Dark Herbalist, or Awaken Online, but the action, extreme quests, and development of such interesting characters cannot be matched, except maybe by The Land, but the moral issues approached in VGO give it the edge.

Overall, the series is truly one of the best LitRPG. I did miss Osmark in this book, though.

Armen Taylor performs a masterful narration.

Great series

To start, I love these books. The MC is likable enough and the characters around him have depth. The whole idea around why they are in a game is solid enough and this is important in my opinion because if players can log out the conflicts would seem less dire. However, it drives me mad how quest text keeps being repeated over and over in full length for every update in quest. Also it can be a little annoying how insignificant details are drawn out making things seem slow
