About this listen

Are you a woman between 35 and 50 experiencing PMS, migraine headaches, sudden weight gain, fatigue, irritability, tender or lumpy breasts, memory loss, fibroids, or cold hands and feet? If so, you may be experiencing symptoms of premenopause.

Even if you're a decade or more away from menopause, your hormones may already be out of balance, usually caused by an excess of estrogen and a deficiency of progesterone, say the authors of What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Pre-Menopause.

John Lee, MD, is a well-known advocate of the benefits of natural progesterone and the author of What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause. Jesse Hanley, MD, adds sensitivity to the emotional and spiritual aspects of premenopause. The authors recommend natural progesterone cream to balance your hormones, eliminate premenopausal symptoms, and make you feel better. They also discuss the dangers of xenohormones - substances not found in nature that have hormonal effects, frequently found in pesticides, solvents, plastics, and hormone-treated meat.

The book presents common symptoms of premenopause with suggested natural treatments (progesterone cream, diet, vitamins, and herbs) and substances to avoid, plus additional chapters on diet and exercise. Many case studies help to bring the information into perspective. If you are premenopausal (or close to someone who is), this is a valuable resource.

Excellent information.

Wish I would have found this book earlier.. about 5 years ago. Reading this would have saved me many tests, misdiagnosis and great sickness and frustration.

A wealth of knowledge that you just don’t get from your doctor!!

I have been to many doctors for the last three years trying to figure out why I started getting symptoms of pre-menopause at age 39 all I got was “well you’re close to 40 so you are estrogen dominant and that’s just what happens to women” So then I sought out lots of nutritional and holistic doctors who would also give me fragmented information about “your liver is congested” or “your adrenals are shot” and finally after reading this book I have a true understanding of what is going on and how to correct it, take care of my body and celebrate this time in my life! Thank you Dr.Hanley and Dr. Lee for being so honest and candid. I love how you promote BALANCE in all areas of life and bring the emotions into how our body is feeling. I am so grateful!!

Great Introduction

This was a great intro to the complex topic of the interplay of hormones as far as production and excretion, what we know, what has been observed, and what we don’t know.
There were numerous studies included, but the only critique I would have is to have a PDF reference included w Audible or Index in Kindle to make the studies (and contradictory studies) easier to find and examine.
So interesting how communicative the hormone systems are with each other, e.g. all sex hormones coming from pregnenolone, testosterone excretion being controlled by progesterone level, # of estrogen receptors being controlled by progesterone level, etc.

Good book. May be useful to get the hard copy too.

This is a good book. some of the details about dosing and symptoms may be best written down so you can refer back to it though. still highly recommend the audiobook.

Helpful info but a little preachy & technical.

Great information and the book really helped me understand what was affecting the changes I have been noticing and gave me solid next steps for moving forward. The book does get a little preachy and she gets lost in the weeds with some of the technical data but the case studies were interesting.
