About this listen

A riveting tale of magic, mystery, and adventure, The Chronicles of William Wilde will thrill listeners who loved The Summoner Trilogy and The Maze Runner.

On a cold winter's night, just shy of his 17th birthday, William Wilde became an orphan. It was a simple car accident that claimed the lives of his family.

Eight months later, at the start of his senior year of high school, a beautiful, mysterious girl enters William's life. Captivating and confident, she holds secrets about William's heritage, secrets of which he himself is unaware: rare magic flows in William's veins.

And watching William from afar is Kohl Obsidian, a monstrous, undead horror. He won't rest until the tragedy he started eight months ago culminates with William's death.

William's life hangs in the balance, and he must discover a means to vanquish a creature that has never been defeated.

Enter a mystical world where heroes are forged from the unlikeliest of metals.

Good story and I always enjoy this narrator. I bought the next couple of books.

Good story

Looking forward to the next book - this is clearly linked to Davis Ashura’s previous series Castes and Outcastes, and in the best possible way. I enjoyed discovering that some of the characters are (perhaps?) reincarnated but not always in the same roles....for now? Fantastic use of storytelling to keep the listener engaged and it has great similarities to Stranger Things with the fact it’s set in 1980s middle America and is full of unknowns that the main characters slowly discover. Can’t wait for book 2!

Imaginative and gripping

I saw a comparison review that this was like maze runner to be honest I see them differently this story has such a great lore behind it that you just get pulled into the story I enjoyed every part of it and how everything came together I’m starting book 2 immediately and can’t wait.

Such a great story!

I've read several books from Davis and I didn't notice this as much with the others but with this one, it was annoying to no end. Especially at the start of the book.

The use of "she said", "he said", "he questioned", "she exclaimed" after every comment almost drove me to fast forward past the chapter. I love the world that Davis has created though, and Nick always does a fantastic job narrating, that I stuck with it and I can honestly say I enjoyed the book.

I'll be listening to book #2 for sure.

One kinda major issue

The story kept an excellent flow and the narrator made each character come alive. I’m excited to keep listening to more.

Great Coming of Age Story

As always Nick Podedhl provides an amazing performance. As for the book itself, it's a little on the YA side of fantasy but still a good listen for all ages. If you enjoyed the Castes and Outcasts series you will enjoy this one. Frankly I'm surprise there are so few reviews for this book (only 102 ratings at the time of writing this). I wish the audio book had been slightly longer but overall I'm happy to have it in my collection.

The 80s pop culture references are a pleasant undertone that add nicely to the colorful story, plot, and character building. If you enjoyed these same types of reference from Ready Player One you will get similar smiles out of this book.

A good start to another great series

kind of reminds me or percy Jackson just older. had a few moments when I thought they were acting a bit childish for their ages but then I remembered a bit of what it was like to be 17-18. I think asher did a good job with the characters for the most part. the MC is a bit dense though I think ignoring his instincts when he's not in danger. I will likely finish the series as it has pretty good potential

not bad

I loved the story and the timeline that it was written in! I grew up in that timeline and it brought back happy memories. The reader is great and I look forward to the next book!

Loved the story!

William Wilde and the Necrosed by Davis Ashura, narrated by the sublime Nock Podehl, is a tremendously well-written and exciting story. Nick's performance confirms that he, once again, deserves the credit given him as one of the top narrators in fantasy today.

Fans of Rick Riordan, Suzanne Collins, James Dashner, and Brandon Mull will find a new home with The Chronicles of William Wilde. Those who loved Indiana Jones, the Goonies, and E.T. as kids will also get lost in this Urban Fantasy.

This story is magical. Both literally and figuratively. Ashura has managed to unfold an adventure to us that bridges the generational appeal, promising to delight middle-aged audiences all the way down to high school audiences, much the same way that STRANGER THINGS has done. As a 40-year-old, I found myself living in a nostalgic time through the story, with all the 80's references, while not being able to take the ear buds out as the plot sped along. The magic system is just being introduced, and we get to learn with the characters. For a while, I wasn't sure who was on whose side. With a fair amount of twists and discovery, hints of teenage love, and plenty of adventure, William Wilde and the Necrosed promises a rollercoaster of thrills to a wide audience. The characters feel like old friends from a long time ago . . . and some are, if you know Ashura's other works. You will not be disappointed.
