About this listen

Thomas O’Grady is the unofficial King of Sugar Mountain. He’s always been untouchable; the kind of man you admire from afar, but don’t get to be close to. So imagine my surprise when I get offered a job working underneath him at his resort. It’s a dream come true … until it isn’t. He’s grumpy, opinionated, and judgmental. I want to tell him exactly where he can shove it, but then I meet his daughter …

Nothing matters more to me than my little girl. My world stops and starts with her. Running my family’s resort is a job. Being Clara’s dad is a gift. I wasn’t looking for a relationship, but when Brooklyn walked into my office with her fiery red hair and matching personality, all bets were off. I’ve tried to keep it professional, but that woman pushes every single button I’ve got. And hell, I sort of love her for it.

So what am I going to do about it?

3.5*

I enjoyed the story overall, but it didn’t wow me. If you’re looking for a somewhat grumpy single dad, who lost his wife when their child was born, and a woman who is newly divorced after ending a marriage that just wasn’t what she wanted, then this is the perfect book for you. It’s a small mountain town that has a resort that attracts tourists during the winter. He is part of the family that owns and runs the resort and she is someone who grew up in the town. They really just haven’t crossed paths in a way where he knows who she is outside of her name. They have a funny/awkward meet cute and then it takes off from there. I enjoyed the story and the voice actors, like I said it just didn’t blow me away. The child in this is very present. If I remember correctly she’s like 6 or 8 🤣. She’s sweet and funny, but definitely very present in the story as a heads up to those who aren’t big on the kids being highlighted. I will say I am excited to read about a certain bartender and her favorite patron if that’s a planned story.

I recommend this to anyone who is looking for grumpy single dad and newly single heroine, who fall pretty quickly, and the child is funny and present in the plot. Low-medium spice depending how you rate it.

Amazing story

This was such an amazing book! The voice actors really brought out the best of this book. I am in love with Clara! Every character from this book seems so real and honest. The relationships that each character has with each other is amazing. I listen to this book so quickly, and now I need the next book in the series!

Just ok

This story line was simple, the brothers are great, I like the single dad plot. But nothing very exciting about it. No real angst. Make narrator not so great either female voices. Wish we’d just do duets because this is often a challenge for all narrators to read the other gender.

Disappointed…

I loved the baseball series that J Sterling wrote. This didn’t seem like the same author. I almost returned it. The narrator’s almost sounded silly and not authentic characters.
