About this listen

Based on the groundbreaking study that shaved three years off a subjects' age in just eight weeks, discover a proven, accessible plan to prevent diseases and reduce your biological age.

It’s true: Getting older is inevitable, and your chronological age can only move in one direction. But you also have a biological age, which scientists can measure by assessing how your genes are expressed through epigenetics. Exciting new research shows that your bio age can actually move in reverse - and Dr. Kara Fitzgerald’s groundbreaking, rigorous clinical trial proved it’s possible. By eating delicious foods and establishing common-sense lifestyle practices that positively influence genetic expression, study participants reduced their bio age by just over three years in only eight weeks!

Now Dr. Fitzgerald shares the diet and lifestyle plan that shows you how to influence your epigenetics for a younger you. In Younger You you’ll learn:

  • It’s not your genetics that determines your age and level of health, it’s your epigenetics.
  • How DNA methylation powerfully influences your epigenetic expression
  • The foods and lifestyle choices that most affect DNA methylation
  • Simple swaps to your daily routines that will add years to your life
  • The full eating and lifestyle program, with recipes and meal plans, to reduce your bio age and increase vitality
  • How to take care of your epigenetic expression at every life stage, from infancy through midlife and your later decades

We don’t have to accept a descent into disease and unwellness as we age as inevitable: When you reduce bio age, you reduce your odds of developing all the major diseases, including diabetes, cancer, and dementia. With assessment tools for determining your bio age, recipes, and plans for putting it all into practice, Younger You helps you repair years of damage, ward off chronic disease, and optimize your health - for years to come.

Critic reviews

"Finally a well-explained, dynamic, science-backed guide to optimizing your health by affecting the core of what makes all of us tick - our genes. I’ve been using Dr. Fitzgerald’s program in my practice for years and I’m so pleased this information is now accessible to all." (Mark Hyman, MD, 14-time New York Times best-selling author and founder and director of The UltraWellness Center)

"A lifestyle program has never been more worthwhile or more revolutionary than Dr. Fitzgerald’s in Younger You. She shows how the simple things like nutrition, exercise, and daily routines can profoundly affect your quality of life - and that it’s never too early or too late for the whole family to start thinking about optimizing their epigenetic expression.” (Sara Gottfried, MD, three-time New York Times best-selling author of The Hormone Cure)

"It is a new era - aging 'backward' is no longer a fantasy, it is now a fact proven by clinical trial. Dr. Kara Fitzgerald, lead author of this paradigm-shifting trial, now describes her approach in her new book, Younger You. This is the first book in the new era of 'aging reversal' medicine and health, and for all of us who are aging, this is a must-read." (Dale Bredesen, MD, professor and author of the New York Times best seller The End of Alzheimer’s)

New, simple and evidence-based

What I like the most is the simplicity of the program and the possibility of applying it in real life on a daily basis. One can jump into the program or take steps towards a new way of living younger. I am learning a lot, thanks Dr. Fitzgerald and team.

GROUNDBREAKING!!

I re-purchased the book, before the audio was corrected (I believe it has been corrected now). I skipped Chapter 3 but was able to listen to the rest of the book without any audio issues.

The book is AMAZING! I've been following various functional medicine Drs via podcasts and books for years and this is the first time I've heard about DNA methylation and its impact on health span. The fact that we can impact our gene expression via food and lifestyle is incredible! And this book provides the framework for what to do.

The nutrient appendix and the explanation for WHY the recommendations have been made are powerful. This gives the reader the information needed to make individual adjustments based on each person's unique circumstances.

I love the emphasis on whole foods and lifestyle! The plan is achievable! It may take a while to figure out how to adjust your diet to align, but it is totally worth it. Without health, what do we have?

As a prior vegan (who also ate omega-3 rich fish), based on this book I added eggs and liver to better support my body and overall health. I'm very careful about my food choices, so did not take these changes lightly. Information has the power to change behavior, and this book did just that for me.

Read/listen to the book and implement the plan. This is powerful, empowering information!!

FORMER REVIEW: I am unable to listen to this book. In Chapter 3, around minute 29, the sound is not audible. There are two people talking over each other. I returned the book and hope the author fixes the audio soon. I am eager to listen to this book!!

Pretty good, but messed up recording and PDF

Overall this is a pretty good book. However, the recording for Chapter 3 is messed up with two recordings superimposed on top of each other. It is unlistenable and just has to be skipped. There is a PDF to go along with the book, but it is 185 pages long with no table of contents. SERIOUSLY!?! It's impossible to find what you're looking for. Who includes a 185 page document without a table of contents? It makes it practically worthless.

Great information, very repetitive

I think this book could have been about a 1/4 or the size. Kind of reads like an infomercial but I believe the information is solid and well researched. Clearly trying to sell her program. I didn’t feel the need to finish the book after getting the gist of it.

There's an echo starting about 57 minutes in

I don't know if others are having the same problem, but there's a really annoying echo about 57 minutes into the audiobook that completely destroys the listening experience. The text itself is tough to listen too--not because it's too technical, but rather because it's written on the level of a 3rd grader. I was looking forward to this book given Dr. Kara Fitzgerald's good podcast and education in the functional medicine world, but this book was a significant underachievement. Read her study instead--it's better written and much more concise.

Virtue Signalling and History Avoiding

There *may* be some good info in this book, but I couldn't get past the part where the other offers up the stress and trauma experienced by Native Americans and African Americans as reasons for their epigenetic burdens while ignoring the plight of her own Polish grandparents as the immigrated from Poland to the United States at a time when all Slavs were seen as dirty, stupid, and "less than." My parents came from Eastern Europe around 1918 (they had me late in life and I am now old in my own right) and they experienced widespread hate and bigotry -- as did most other immigrants in turn: Irish, Italians, Germans, Chinese, etc. As late as 1945, my father, when he moved to the neighborhood in which I grew up, had the slur, "Go Home Bohunk" written on his mailbox. Why does the author not address the extreme stress and trauma of moving from one's own country in a filthy steerage cabin across rough seas to a land where you did not have a job or know the language only to be marginalized by the Americans who called themselves "native" (as distinct from Native Americans). Sorry, Kara, but the virtue signalling was just too much. If stress and trauma is indeed a precursor to epigenetic stress and malfunction, then any human that has undergone marginalization, received widespread hate, or struggled to find a job, a home, or feed their family is included.
