About this listen

Family secrets, an unlikely alliance - and a love neither expected....

After his parents' sudden death, Daniel Frith, Viscount Whitfield, is struggling to unravel a web of chaotic family records. He is astonished to learn his father's will contains a mysterious legacy: a house left to a complete stranger. He knows nothing about the beautiful Penelope Pendleton and he's not sure he wants to...until she turns out to be a whiz at all those nasty tasks involved in estate administration....

Penelope has no idea why Rose Cottage was left to her. But it's a godsend after her brother's reckless actions disgraced her family. She had planned to stay out of Viscount Whitfield's way, not grow ever closer to him. But when they discover how entwined their families really are, Daniel and Penelope must collaborate to avoid a scandal that reaches much higher than they could have guessed....

Excellent Narration

Daniel, a viscount, is attempting to discover who has inherited a cottage on his estate as well as organize boxes of neglected documents. Penelope, a disgraced sister of a traitor, has inherited the cottage in question and is looking forward to living a quiet life in the country. The two join forces to try and discover why Penelope was left the cottage and to organize the viscount’s documents in an effort to attain the answer. While working together they discover a family secret that brings the government down on them. Daniel and Penelope also develop an attraction to each other. Although the storyline is predictable the characters are interesting and the narration is superior making the audiobook well worth listening to. I recommend this audible book to anyone who likes a clean, pleasant, romance with very good narration.

Wish I’d gotten it from the library

This review is based on my second reading. The first time I just kinda let things slide because I just couldn’t,
This time I wrote a review at Goodreads and Amazon

Here’s a link to my GR review. It is spoiler-y. And there is mild ranting about historical inaccuracies (disjointed lecture on the Luddite Rebellion and [the totally unrelated] Peterloo Massacre provided free of charge)

ROSALYN CSN MAKE ANY. STORY BETTER

Story ok but Landor as usual top of perfection. Such a talent for voices I would almost read science fiction to listen to her.

Pretty good - not great

This second book in the series didn't have the power of the first. Story was mawkish instead of romantic. Characters were also mawkish. For me a dynamic dialogue between interesting characters makes for a better book. Neither were found in this book.

Never Got Off the Ground

This was a lukewarm story that had no teeth. Didn’t grow legs either. It could have been a good story, had the author picked one topic and developed it, but there were so many pots on the stove, she didn’t have time the time to tend to all of them. Some plot lines were completed, but added absolutely nothing to the story. I was absolutely surprised at the abrupt ending, and the hurried epilogue that threw the tie-ups at readers like a basket of tangled ribbons. “Just here! Take them!” It was like she took a break, then came back to write and decided she didn’t want to bother with it. I am sad and disappointed for the main characters. They deserved more.

So very boring

Devoid of any real romance or toe-curling sex. I had to fast forward frequently. No more Jane Ashford for me.
