Good book for any adhd couple

Really helpful advice for couples struggling with adhd. Book was geared towards one partner with adhd and did not offer a lot of advice for if both partners have ADHD

Painful to listen to

Though this book does not give any bad advice, most of the practical suggestions felt too juvenile for me to have any desire to engage in. I enjoy silly activities, but not lame ones. The bigger problem was the reader, who rarely seemed to understand when she had come upon the end of a sentence. Her inflection was so strange that it made the text more challenging for me to comprehend and became grating on my ears.

Author doesn't have first hand experience with ADHD

I was offended more than once by the author's portrayal of the ADHD person.

Not geared at all for the wife who is the ADHD-spouse

I struggled mightily with this book.

Most books I’ve encountered so far come from the ADHD husband/non-ADHD wife angle, which is somewhat understandable based on not-so-far-in-the-past trends. This one is no different. However I am the wife who is recently diagnosed with ADHD in my forties, and my husband believes he is the non-ADHD spouse. (Which is a whole other issue I am trying to learn about and navigate as well.)

Although everything I am reading stresses how important it is to not fall into a parent/child dynamic … totally agreed … practically every strategy then suggested in this book puts the couple square into a parent/child position.

So many references to helping, leading, guiding, managing the ADHD effects and/or spouse.

This is particularly frustrating as the mom/wife who is already the Family Manager, responsible for helping, leading, guiding, and managing so many minute and overwhelming aspects of the family. I respect that very few books can meet specific, individual needs. However, as this book comes from the ADHD husband/non-ADHD wife tract, there is little to help the increasing number of women/moms being diagnosed with ADHD and how to improve understanding and communication with your spouse and family. Particularly in light of the fact that the responsibilities and minutiae of your daily life are not going to be lessened or simply go away.

Overall, it just felt a bit condescending and unrealistic. I am a fully-functioning adult, and fairly successful one, at that. I just have a few quirks and the need for some better knowledge and communication skills mixed in with my slightly different daily functioning. I do not need to be managed or guided or demeaned, or even excluded from potentially “difficult” situations.

Hopefully this book is helpful for some who may need some basic tips and tricks - to do lists, dividing tasks by who is better at what, and such. Unfortunately it was a miss for me.

Not for me

This was definitely not for me. Felt like the presentation was looking down on people with adhd.
