Great Therapeutic Techniques Included

I like that the author talks about the influence living with a narcissistic mother has on other relationships later in life.
she introduces less commonly discussed therapeutic techniques, such as narrative therapy and ecotherapy, to help manage these adult relationships. There’s an excellent discussion on how cultural expectations of motherhood and female roles can impede the recognition of narcissistic behaviors and slow the recovery journey. A very well-written book.

A must have

This book hit me on a deeply personal level, bringing to light so many emotions I hadn’t fully processed. It validated experiences I once thought were just “normal” but now see were rooted in emotional neglect and manipulation. The strategies for silencing the inner critic and rebuilding confidence felt like a roadmap to healing, offering both comfort and actionable steps. If you’ve ever felt unseen or unworthy because of a complicated mother-daughter dynamic, this book is like having a compassionate friend who truly gets it. Will recommend!

Amazingly powerful hope and help for healing!

As a daughter of a mother whose cruelty felt like a shadow over my childhood, I have carried many wounds into adulthood. When I saw this audiobook, I had a mix of hope and hesitation. Could a book really help me heal years of emotional neglect and pain? I was about to find out.
From the moment I started listening, it felt as if Claire was speaking directly to me, validating experiences I had long buried. Her words resonated deeply, revealing the insidious nature of narcissism and its lasting impacts. The book tackles the heavy burden of growing up under the shadow of a narcissistic mother, shedding light on the emotional neglect many of us faced. I started to understand that my feelings weren’t just “overreactions”; they were responses to a tumultuous upbringing.
One of the most liberating aspects of this book is its focus on "silencing your inner critic." Claire skillfully guides the reader to confront those negative voices we often inherit from our mothers, helping us recognize that we are not defined by their narratives. She writes, “You have the right to own your story and reclaim your voice,” and those words filled me with a sense of empowerment I had been yearning for.
Throughout the audiobook, Claire shares practical exercises and insightful strategies that helped me start the healing process. I also found that forgiveness was necessary for me to heal and grow away from the past. I found myself reflecting on my emotions and learning how to nurture the parts of me that my mother neglected. I felt a growing sense of confidence, something I thought I’d never achieve, as I learned to silence the criticisms that had haunted me for so long.
I am incredibly grateful for this book. Brown has crafted a lifeline for those of us who are ready to reclaim our power, heal from our past, and finally step into the light with more strength than we knew we had!
