Great read for first time parents

As a first time mom, this book was so helpful in understanding my own emotions in parenting. I never realized how much of my own emotions in parenting come from my own experience as a child, and how that affects my child’s upbringing and their future. Although my child is still young, this book is a great building block for thinking about raising children as they get older. I now feel more confident about how to keep my anger in check because I understand it more!

Extremely Eye-Opening

Having spent almost a decade working with kids in nannying and daycare roles, and despite not being a parent myself, this book resonated deeply with me. Growing up under the influence of an emotionally abusive narcissist, I often wished for a resource like this for my mom to read. Viewing this book through the lens of a child who never comprehended why their voice went unheard, it serves as a profound eye-opener.

This book relates not only to parenting, but human behavior. It explores how we can exercise control over ourselves proactively, well before issues arise. The author explains emotional management, identifying triggers, suggests healthy coping mechanisms, and highlights the impact a parent's emotions have on a child and our health as a whole.

I strongly believe that we are the impact of our envirornment, and this book highlights it SO well! Equally, I praise the narrator whose calming, soft-spoken voice offers a uniquely soothing listening experience, something I haven't found with other audiobooks. This is a great resource for anyone seeking to take a step back, and understand the significance of addressing triggers before irreversible words are spoken.

Makes me take a step back.

This book can be very useful for those parents that are struggling. The guilt you can feel as a parent is real and this book offers great strategies to help avoid getting to the point of doing something you will regret. No one has ever upset me the way my kids are able to and this helped me understand why and how to move past it in a healthy way.

A Great Lesson for All

We all have our good and bad days. And sometimes as parents, the bad outweighs the good. This book helps to teach us how to balance everyday life and the emotions that come with it so that it doesn't negatively impact our children. We live in a world of overstimulation: TVs, tablets, cellphones, and social media keep us constantly engaged and add a crying baby or a nagging toddler, work problems, and personal problems, it is easy to cry (lash out) over spilled milk. Our first reaction is anger, "why can't things just be normal??" "Why don't you listen??" But this book teaches us to step back and look at our triggers and how to manage them and apply these teachings to daily life directly and clearly, and most importantly, gently. A great read for parents of all ages.

Very informative and helpful!!

I am not even a parent yet and i wish my parents had read this book for when they had myself and my siblings!! Many of the suggestions and techniques mentioned in this book are ones that i have found incredibly helpful for my every day life with common frustrations adn stressors. The breathing techniques for anger were awesome and I love how there is room for you to practice along. The means to identify and handle emotions when they come along was invaluable. I will defintiely be implementing many of these suggestions and techniques in my daily life from now on! I think i will also revisit this book again for when i have my own child someday as i think it will defintiely help me as a parent!!
