About this listen
A guide to successful communication-based parenting from a mum, teacher, and therapist who has tried it all!
Children don’t come with an instruction manual. Thankfully, you can buy this one! Lacking confidence as a parent? Unsure and questioning your parenting approach, but not knowing where to start? I’m Sharon Eshmade, and I can relate, as someone who has been there, done that, and written this audiobook. Parents deserve a shortcut, and this audiobook achieves just that. Luckily, you don't have to drive around in circles, hit the constant potholes, or meet the same dead ends that I did. Fast-track and upgrade your parenting now. You can be a safe and confident driver, with a roadworthy vehicle and happy passengers too.
After 20 years in special needs teaching, I wondered why my traditional parenting style hadn’t delivered me perfect parenting status or stopped my kids from lying, defying, manipulating, and kicking me in the shin when they didn’t get their way. I then questioned whether a U-turn on my outdated parenting methods was needed. This audiobook details my journey, testing the best and worst parenting approaches, which transformed my life to become a talk therapist and parenting coach.
Unexpectedly, I also developed acceptance and kindness of myself to become a more positive and compassionate person. My individually tailored communication-based parenting approach instils empathy and connection as your kids develop into independent adults. If you’re exasperated with your boisterous children, or you just want to strengthen your relationship with them, you’ll find answers in this audiobook.
I have done the testing, so throw out the old road map, and get straight on the highway of confident parenting.

Story
In Hold On to Your Kids, Dr. Neufeld and Dr. Maté explore the phenomenon of peer orientation: the troubling tendency of children and youth to look to their peers for direction—for a sense of right and wrong, for values, identity and codes of behavior. But peer orientation undermines family cohesion, poisons the school atmosphere, and fosters an aggressively hostile and sexualized youth culture. It provides a powerful explanation for schoolyard bullying and youth violence; it is an escalating trend that has never been adequately described or contested.

Story
Parenting isn't rocket science, it's just brain surgery. And Dr. Joshua Straub has good news for you: You can do it! You don't need to do all the "right" things as a parent. Both science and the Bible show us that the most important thing we can provide for our kids is a place of emotional safety. In other words, the posture from which we parent matters infinitely more than the techniques of parenting. Emotional safety - more than any other factor - is scientifically linked to raising kids who live, love, and lead well.

Good stuff
This book is really helpful for me as a parent of three kids. It is real! Parenting is difficult! I can tell that Sharon is imparting parenting knowledge that she has personally tested. I just think driving has such amazing symbolism. This audiobook can help you if you need assistance with your children.

Very Detailed And Informative
Parenting is never an easy challenge. Sometimes it is stigmatized as being a ball and chain. Something were fun times that we enjoyed back when we were young and prior to the lifestyle cease to be. It doesn't always need to be so. Such a thing is a two-way street. On the other hand, it is often said that it isn't always the end of something, but the beginning. There is a lot of responsibility involved and things tend to get pricy, but it all falls back on the main link in the chain, the marriage itself. Whether they know it or not, it is often seen that how the kids are raised is a reflection of the parents themselves. This book was very detailed and informative on this matter. I strongly recommend that every parent or parent to be give this book a listen.

Groundbreaking and entertaining!
What a great book. The groundbreaking teachings in this book are enhanced beautifully by many entertaining anecdotes of the author’s own parenting. Her situation with two boisterous boys struck a real chord with me as we have a charming but very challenging boy ourselves.
When I re-listened to this with my wife, we exchanged many nods and knowing glances as we saw reflections of our own experiences. It was helpful for us even just to know that we’re not alone in our struggles and the way we often feel.
As Christians, we always have that famous verse “spare the rod and spoil the child” at the back of our minds, but we are starting to come round to the view that this may be a metaphorical way of saying “spare *discipline* and spoil the child”.
We’re excited to use some of these methods with our kids, especially as their communication skills develop (which is when these methods become most effective).
At times humorous, touching and always engaging, I highly recommend this book, especially if you have “challenging” kids.

A Crash Course In Growing Pains
This is a raw and candid take on parenting. Sharon's personal story of struggling to raise her kids, and finding a sense of balance and unity when so much was changing for her family struck a chord with me. These are some things people don't talk about before having children, and once you're in it, you might be too bogged down in the hairy day-to-day to see the bigger picture of what your family is becoming. All in all its a good read

Helpful Guidebook
A thoughtful and reflective discussion of the trials of motherhood and practical methods for parenting “boisterous” children. I enjoyed the humorous (and painfully accurate) anecdotes shared by author, Sharon. Great read!

I love this take on parenting!
I've always found it strange how little instruction we give parents. And people are often afraid to even talk about their experience because they don't want to be judged. Sharon Eshmade rips away the curtain and just speaks the truth - the good and the bad. I love her point of view! She's compassionate, but also gives specific and expert advice. She's been through a few things that you can avoid. And we can all learn from each other's experiences. This is a brave and exciting book. I'm glad I found it.
