About this listen

A race for power. An uneasy truce. And Earth hangs in the balance.

Reaching the center of the First Floor was supposed to unlock Easy Mode for Dirk. Instead, he finds himself thrust into the center of a conflict that threatens to derail his entire Climb.

Welcome to the Hold—a place frozen in time where ancient powerhouses wage an eternal war.

Will Dirk choose a side, or will he gamble everything by playing them against each other in a daring bid to emerge as the ultimate victor?

Book 2 of a hilarious new LitRPG Apocalypse featuring a sometimes loveable and oftern muderhobo-ey MC, a know-it-all goose companion, honking good humor, a detailed System, time-loop magic, and more. It's perfect for fans of Dungeon Crawler Carl, Towers of Heaven, and Tower Climber.

2nd book, floor 1, 999 floors to go?!

I really liked the first book. The narrator, the story, the humor, EVERYTHING. But, this one, well, it’s just too damn slow. I mean the MC is totally OP (for his level), yet he always runs into people who are wayyyy more OP than he is, hence the constant reliance on the “do overs”. At first, I thought he gets 7 “do-overs” per floor. But, no, seems like 7 “do-overs” per 24 hours. Well, that gets tedious in terms of progression. I mean this is the 2nd book and he’s still on 1st floor. There are 1000 floors! How’s that gonna work (at 1 book per year)?!

Outstanding characters and relationships

Dunning hit on a perfect combination of diverse characters and exciting storyline that got even better in book 2. At a time when so many authors in this genre struggle to come up with fresh material to what is expected regurgitated tropes, this guy actually comes through with unexpected and enjoyable ways of giving the finger to what is expected… and that’s a good thing.
