About this listen

He left behind the Northern Kingdoms, tired of their wars and schemes. The golden waves of the Sea of Sand didn't drown him in fire, but the Evening Stars ultimately didn't bless him with their light. Despite his many adventures, despite the fact he's already endured enough hardship to last him several lifetimes, his soul was restless. Finally, Hadjar Darkhan and his friend, Einen the Islander, reached the capital of the Darnassus Empire - Dahanatan.

They managed to do something most other outsiders would deem impossible - they became disciples of "The Holy Sky" School of martial arts. What adventures await the former general and pirate? How will the very heart of the vast Empire treat them? What dangers lurk where the best of the Empire's warriors are forged?

Hadjar had no idea. Still, he continued to follow the call of his dragon heart. Wherever it took him....

Different voices for the story’s characters

The narrator is pretty good and makes the story interesting and causes one to want to hear the next book.

so awesome to see this level of magic the series

Really enjoying this series. It continues to have a great story line, with unique support characters and an enjoyable path for the MC. I hope that Kevin Collins stays the narrator of this series as he's done such a great job so far. I do wish the opposition characters had a little more variety in the "I'm mad, let's fight" voices. The "lower your voice and yell" voice that's associated with everyone makes it tough in larger fights. It would nice to hear more variety. That said, I'm certain none of us can really understand how difficult narration is and I hope Collins continues to be the narrator of this and many other series.
** I admit I'm doing a copy/paste on this series. I didn't review them when I listened to them but felt these books deserved a review.

He just sits there and contemplates life choices during combat

It’s dumb that a man who has killed so many, can’t seem to stab the guy in front of him, because he’s thinking his flaws, WHY!!

The developing plot

The plot continues to build as people who were in the background of other books slowly find their way back into the story. This series continues to deliver on a thrilling and captivating adventure through what is honestly a fairly dark world. Our main protagonist goes through a lot and as he sees what is expected of him he only learns things will get harder. My only complaint and it’s been their since the beginning is the narrator needs to find his voice. A lot of scenes where the narrator imitates yelling when he should just yell. It kills the dramatics and shows how much better someone like Neil Hellegers can truly bring a story to life.

In my top 3 favorite series

So to start off - I’m up to book 9 in this series. I’ve read them via kindle and patreon.
I’ve enjoyed every single book in this series. It is so absurdly hard to find a series that continues to be good book after book. Each new book draws you into the story. Your left wondering what else will Hadjar have to endure. I don’t want to go into the story due to the fact I’m several books ahead of this one and don’t want to drop a spoiler by mistake.
I look forward to the next book in this series so much so that I buy - Audible and the Kindle versions plus support this author on Patreon as well. There is only one other series I look forward to as much - Beginning After The End.
Dragon Heart - Is a book that has a good pace. It definitely pulls you in - It’s difficult to stop reading this series once you start. The author doesn’t drone on with same phrases or with the MC inner monologuing about his miserable life or how unfair life is to him . The story constantly moves forward. All I can say is - I hope you enjoy this series as much as I do!
