Publisher's summary

The monarch wants him dead. A dragon’s torching the realm. Is his heroic gig about to be a critical catastrophe?

Gorm Ingerson knows the king is a fink. With the land’s insidious ruler hell-bent on his destruction, the axe-wielding Dwarf berserker is desperate to beat him to the punch. But when he discovers the rotten regent’s claim of a town razed by the world’s richest dragon is false, the gruff adventurer fears there’s more than a personal grudge at stake.

Struggling to convince his old comrades that they need to help him solve the mystery, the dwarven idealist stumbles into a sinister smuggling ring. And with strange creatures, cunning assassins, and vindictive bankers all plotting his demise, Gorm worries this time the price of doing the right thing will be fatally high.

Can he make a saving throw against death with a high-stakes roll at disadvantage?

Dragonfired is the thrilling third book in the Dark Profit Saga satirical fantasy trilogy. If you like witty banter, RPG references, and clever sendups of popular tropes, then you’ll love J. Zachary Pike’s laugh-out-loud conclusion.

Excellent end to an excellent trilogy

This was a satisfying conclusion to an excellent story full of varied characters and complex, yet grounded conflicts interspersed amid all the big world changing ones. The narrator did a great job keeping distinct voices for all the many different characters.

Deep characters, Excellent plot twists

I have been waiting for this book for so long and I’m not disappointed. I love how the story, characters, and morals are for people of all ages. They have the simplicity and depth that a child can understand, but that even a well seasoned adult can relate to. This book is not preachy, if it was, I wouldn’t have finished book one. I wouldn’t hesitate to gift this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy. I already know that I am going to come back to this series again and again. I ran a dnd campaign based off of this setting because of how much it inspired me.
The comedy of the office, mixed with the adventure of high fantasy. A genuinely amazing story from a brilliant author.

A great ending to a amazing journey

Honestly this was so well worth the wait, ever since I picked up orcanomics I knew I would love this story immensely from start to finish and J.Z.P did not disappoint at all. I love how the story changes your perspective on certain things and makes you feel for certain characters and all the twist. Something I wasn’t prepared for and some completely blew me away. After listening to all three books I would gladly recommend this series to anyone.

Satisfying ending to a clever, funny story

I enjoyed listening to this final part of the trilogy. It took me a few chapters to remember the players, but then I fell into the story and am sad to see it end. Very enjoyable and clever!

good 😊 liked it

it was a bit too deus ex machina and maybe a little too saccharine too.

Fantasy made as interesting as it should be

In this modern day, we are all assaulted by rote narratives via text, video, and performance that rot our brain. For this reason, I try to find books that I'd want my children to one day read so that they might learn something. This book comfortably fits that role, saving a generation from necrotic media and making you laugh from start to end.

Social commentary without the bitter after taste

Really enjoyed this whole series. It does an interesting job of explaining so much of the American capitalist society through comedic fantasy.

A thrilling and poignant conclusion to a great series

I don’t usually do reviews, but this series achieved things I can scarcely articulate. I recommend it a hundred times.

The Good, Bad, and Overall...

The Good: The Saga continues. Our heroes return and are put through the paces once more. There is a lot to chew upon in this story.

The Bad: This should have been 2 books. The last quarter is deeply compressed with a lot going on in which it is easy to get lost. I had to listen twice to digest the full story. It's like a roller coaster with no straight lines. You are constantly being pulled, pushed, and flipped with no chance to catch your breath. There is a throwaway comment in the book about sticky arrows. That is how the last quarter feels - as if you are eating piece after piece of taffy without time to swallow. Your jaw aches, drool runs down your mouth, and you want to spit the whole thing out to catch your breath.

Overall: It is still a good story. It is sad that everything is wrapped up as there will most likely not be another in this series. It had great bones. I would suggest you stop when they go for the dragon, and take a few days off before finishing it. Binging will be an overload and you will miss a lot of connections. Or, you can listen twice to pick up those missed bits. Hopefully Zach will build upon this world as Terry Pratchett did in Discsworld/Ankh-Morpork. I am left wanting more.
